This is what it’s like living in “the shittiest neighborhood in the shittiest city in the world”, according to my screaming American neighbor.
I would have thought such a place would lack tourists due to crime, violence, lack of running water …
These were views on my run and just before/after my run, following her shrieking complaints. Maybe she was mad about the free ceramics classes in the plaza? 🤷🏼‍♀️🤣

The “I don't wanna" was extremely strong today for some unknown reason this morning. Once I put my shoes on and got out, it was just wonderful out - went further than I'd planned to. 🤷🏻

Waiting on my grocery order to be brought to the car and everything is FUBAR, severely understaffed and lagging. Everyone is angry.

I’d be mad too, but am instead enjoying the absolutely incandescent stream of profanities coming from the redneck lady next to me. She can’t find the right person to yell at, and keeps sending her hapless husband on sorties to try to get things moving. He wanders around, holds his arms up in despair, and returns unsuccessfully to be scolded for his ineffectiveness.

People are absolutely polarized on whether they loved or hated this 2023 Booker Prize winner. I loved it, but I listened to the excellently performed audiobook, so I was spared the criticisms of excessively lengthy paragraphs and non-obvious dialogue demarcations.

As for the story, the slide into a totalitarian state and the heart-wrenching repercussions for an ordinary family ensnared in the fallout is really well done. It is brutal. #bookstodon

Finished this book last night: “The Great Escape - A True Story of Forced Labor and Immigrant Dreams in America.”
I really recommend it; it’s well-written and the author, Saket Soni, is an Indian-born, at one time undocumented (like his subjects) immigrant who was the organizer that got their case through and ultimately a significant level of justice (though many perpetrators didn’t face consequences).

The NCAA really doesn’t want fans in Europe. Not only can I not find any way to watch March Madness from Spain, I couldn’t do brackets on most sites (did on ESPN and my family will have to cross-compare).
It’s probably my 4th-least favorite thing about living here (No. 1, 2 and 3 are all the same, cigarette smoking is much more common and smoke really bothers me).
