J'apprends l'existence du "dispositif 'voyager-protéger' " mis en place en France par le ministère de l'Intérieur en 2021, où des agent-es de police peuvent voyager gratuitement en train si:

  • iels se signalent au chef de bord
  • iels portent une arme dans le cadre de leur service habituel.

L'objectif est de renforcer la sécurité dans les trains... dans les faits ça vient sans doute légaliser une pratique pré-existante où des policier-es se permettaient déjà d'intervenir sur leur trajet.

Recently I've seen accounts from the @newmast.community domain automatically retooting my toots, based on specific hashtags.

All these accounts apparently aim to share posts from mastodon, bluesky and threads.

This is quite an invasive practice. If I'm retooted, I want it to be by "real people", and bcos my post was interesting or useful to someone.
So I've blocked their domains (they also have @newsmast.social) and accounts.

Btw, it's not "consensual" (see the 2nd screenshot above) if it's not "opt-in".
In this case, it's not, and you have to actively block domains to be left alone.

    Et puis il y a l'extrait ci-dessous... J'ai du mal à comprendre comment on peut dénoncer le génocide des Juif/ves toute sa vie et puis tomber dans l'essentialisation des musulman-es?
    Et en quoi un parti ne serait plus d'ED une fois qu'il n'est plus "antijuif"?

    C'est assez inégal mais ça se regarde; le discours sur Praud reste assez basique: il polémique sur tout et n'importe quoi et il est raciste.

    Les laïcard-es transphobes et islamophobes belges se réjouissent de l'inscription de la "liberté" à l' #IVG dans la #constitution en #France. Ce serait une "victoire" et un "acte symbolique qui envoie un message".

    Si on veut regarder les symboles et les messages, il suffit de s'interroger sur à qui on donne cette liberté (par ex. les personnes trans en sont exclues), et pourquoi c'est une "liberté" et non un "droit" qu'on inscrit.

    Parler d'un message et d'un symbole féministe, c'est vraiment rentrer en plein dans le nation branding français. Dans cette entreprise libérale de distinction de la France par rapport à l'autre forcément barbare (il ne donne pas la liberté d'avorter à ses femmes cis lui!) - que ce soit les US, l'Arabie Saoudite ou la Hongrie. Une politique fémonationaliste donc.

    @weilawei @fkamiah17 Yes this double position from Belgium is the result of a typical "compromise" by BE's government (a coalition of ecologists, social-dems, and liberals). Liberals (in the European understanding, so right-wing) opposed support to South-Africa complaint at ICJ, and only accepted it provided Belgium would act against Houthis in the Red Sea.

    Ecologists & soc-dems wanted to support ICJ, and only accepted the mission in the Red Sea if it was "defensive."

    'How to fix your academic writing trouble needs a refresh since the release of generative AI language tools like ChattieG.

    Hoping we will be the first academic writing book to market which tackles using it ethically and well in your dissertation.

    Going through a book to do a second edition is weird, but thrilled to be working with @katherinefirth again, if only on a relatively small project.

    @thesiswhisperer There is no "ethical" use of such tools given the conditions of their production. Please don't endorse them or recommend their use.

    @Looping Un ami m'a dit qu'il s'était récemment inscrit sur Twitter, pr occuper l'espace face à l'ED et y tenir un discours pro-palestinien.
    Selon lui, sinon, les gens non politisées seraient juste exposées au discours opposé.

    J'ai pas trop su quoi lui répondre à part que la plateforme est fondamentalement d'ED, mais maintenant je me dis que c'est pas sûr que ce soit très efficace avec les algos.
    Et toujours l'argument du "il n'y a personne sur Masto" 🙄

    Additionally, the production & political economy behind generative AI is rooted in exploitation & neocolonialism, elements calling for a boycott (but we can't ask students this, I know).

    Recently, a colleague told me they were using it to check if the plan of their articles was sound ("can chatGPT create a text based on these elements?")... I was a bit taken aback that they were trusting it with (1) their own ideas and (2) producing interesting/original article plans...

    D'ailleurs, Martine Turchi pointait sur ASI que "quand ce sont des mineur.es, la société entend. Quand ce sont des personnes majeures, il y a toujours un doute."

    Et c'est cette remarque (horrible) de GD sur cette enfant, et le fait que ça passe sur France 2, qui a déclenché le scandale.
    Parce que le reste, on savait déjà, Mediapart (et d'autres) en avait déjà parlé, et le monde du ciné savait déjà évidemment.

    Je fais des recherches sur la gratuité des TP, et c'est ce qu'on se dit aussi, mais on n'a jamais réussi à trouver de chiffres précis sur le montant du dispositif ticketing/contrôles, ils sont en général cachés par les exploitants.
    Si vous/tu? en as à disposition, ça m'intéresse! :)

    Mais c'est clair qu'une gratuité totale simplifie tout ça, autant pour les réseaux que pour les usager.es.

    Ce serait une économie considérable en effet!

    Pr la petite histoire, à Tallinn, c'est comme à Mtpellier: on rend gratuit mais uniquement pr les résident.es de la ville, pour augmenter les recettes des impôts locaux. (Bcp de personnes vivaient en ville la semaine mais avec leur résidence à la campagne chez les parents).
    Mais en parallèle, investissements ds un nouveau système de ticketing, avec des smart cards etc 🤦 Le contrôle semble avoir été intensifié!

    Débat sur le changement de nom de l'arrêt de #métro Pétillon à #Bruxelles - du nom d'un de ces "acteurs clés de la #colonisation du Congo" selon RTBF.

    Pourquoi ne pas utiliser le nom de Lucie Spède, poétesse bruxelloise? La ministre répond qu'il faut une cohérence géographique. Ok, mais les arrêts existants Eddy Merckx et Jacques Brel ne se rapportent à aucune rue/place du même nom dans le quartier. Pourquoi ce double standard?

    The paper quotes Ahmed's book: "when you expose a problem you pose a problem... [and the] problem would go away if you would just stop talking about it or if you went away". An accurate feeling :/

    I had a good conversation with a friend who recently had Covid again. I asked him why it was hard to hear information on Covid, and why he ignores it and “lives his life”.

    He said that he knew what it could do to him, especially Long Covid, and he was afraid of it. So he can’t even think about it. He knows that he’s in denial and acting badly, and he got worried about telling people that he had Covid again, that he knew he was projecting feeling badly about ignoring Covid by assuming that he would be shamed for talking about catching it. And that he assumed others would also feel this shame in themselves, so he felt that he shouldn’t talk about it and make them also feel bad.

    Covid has all this denial and shame wrapped up in it. My friend is very self-aware and could talk about it, but still didn’t feel able to get away from this daily denial to change his behavior. The possibility of a destroyed future life due to Covid bodily damage is too much for him to bear even thinking about, so he goes on with “normal” life because thinking about protecting himself is too much thinking about Covid. Acting in a safe way is a reminder of how unsafe we are. So he doesn’t.

    I don’t know how to combat this. Masking is a reminder to him of the constant danger he’s in, and of the shame he’s received from others about catching it (both real and imagined). I don’t know how to get through to a society full of people like this, and most who are much less self-aware of their denial.

    @VeeRat @novid IMO, 1 of the solutions is to talk about it, spread the word. To share the burden to the collectivity so that we needn't carry it all by ourselves (as with any political issue). And perhaps, find/create collective orgs that can endorse this issue - not easy.

    Once you inform people, it's their responsibility to act accordingly. Though of course the main responsibility of this collective denial is that of the political and media.

    @VeeRat @novid Perhaps it's a bit like bullying, or when facing an abusive boss. We need to talk about it to find a collective solution.

    But the issue now is: we have a pretty good idea of the solution, we implemented it for a while, with the idea that everything would change afterwards (in French a lot of people were talking of 'le monde d'après', the 'world after covid'), but we're back in it. The miracle solution hasn't worked, and (almost) nobody wants to know about it.
