Urgh, it pains me that so many creators and even bigger publishers (who should know better) actually embed the subtitles on the video instead of using YouTube's subtitle feature.

Like, if you add the subtitles properly - then it keeps the source video clean, the can be community translated, or read by a web browser as text so they can be machine translated or copied and pasted.

Embedding subtitles sucks. And if you are a content creator, plz stop. 🙃

When it was released, I never had cable TV and rarely watched Top of the Pops, so just realised - after hearing the song referenced today - that I have never actually seen the music video for the song.

I don't use often but do have an account there. You sign in to the homepage feed. The main navigation down the left is:

  1. Your Profile
  2. Friends
  3. Memories
  4. Saved
  5. Groups
    etc. etc.

What do you expect to see when you click #2, "Friends"?

I know I've mentioned this before, but one of my favorite features on the Mac that has no equivalent on an iPhone or iPad is adding new words to the system-wide spelling dictionary. The feature dates back to Mac OS X 10.0 and I'm pretty sure was in NeXTStep a decade before that.

And, even better, the custom words you add to the dictionary are stored in a simple text file, one word per line, at:

~/Library/Group Containers/group.com.apple.AppleSpell/Library/Spelling/LocalDictionary

@ChrisZikopoulos @gruber interesting work around 🙂 you can also go to Settings > General > Keyboard > Text Replacement and add words there.

It’s more for converting ‘lol’ to ‘Lots of love’ but will also work for just doubling up on the same word and therefore mimic ‘adding it to the dictionary’.

@ChrisZikopoulos @gruber I discovered this because apparently Apple keyboards think that it’s okay to write ‘USA’ for ‘United States of America’ but not ‘UK’ for ‘United Kingdom’ — it always corrected it to ‘U.K.’ which bugged me so much that I forced the override in the Text Replacement settings.

On my way to fetch my cargobike following a service. The bike shop we use for these services is about 1 hour away by unicycle (assuming 16km/h or 10mph) but actually it is a nice little route. A lot of it is stuff like this or alongside the river.

Point of view of a rider as he moves along a gravel path with lots of trees and other greenery. The camera turns around slowly and shows a bearded man with a helmet. Then it pans down to show he is riding a unicycle.

@JPEGuin If you’re making all the bottom menu items customisable then I’d like all the menu items from the top to be in there.

For example; I use the local timeline a lot and would like to pin it to the main menu rather than have to use the dropdown at the top (awkward to reach with one hand) to switch to it.

I’d like a client that when you open your options are Register + “I already have an account” and if you hit Register then it detects your location and recommends you a server from a location based server list. Then the rest.

Like, someone in the UK could see mastodon.uk, toot.wales, mastodon.scotland first.

Someone in Norway will see snabelen.no, oslo.town, and babb.no first, for example.
