Remember the early days of phone app social media with stuff like foursquare where people were like “yeah I’ll check myself in at these locations I’m at” because it was so cool your phone could DO that?

Now if my phone were to post my location online I’d throw my phone in the garbage disposal

Man searching through mastodon instance about pages reminded me of how much I really love/believe in mastodon as a platform. There’s so many servers with different options and customizations and rulesets and vibes. It’s so cool being able to use social media and just…choose who you want to trust.

Getting weird vibes from one instance’s page? Don’t like a specific rule? Want something kink/interest specific? No problem, you can find something that fits you run by people you trust (and often someone you already know!).

I know I’m just reiterating the WHOLE POINT of mastodon and the fediverse, but sometimes I think I get so caught up in wanting BSKY to succeed so my friends get off twitter that I forget just how good we have it here, and how much I believe in the fediverse ideals

It’s actually wild that I can tap on a video on my phone and INSTANTLY have it start playing in HD.

I remember sitting in my bed in 2009 on my iPod touch, tapping on a YouTube video, pausing it, putting my iPod down, and brushing my teeth while waiting for the video to buffer at 240 or 360p

Hey furries.club users (and others!):
What do you guys think about glitch-soc?

Personally, I'd dig having advanced post formatting using Markdown. I post enough links that I'd like to embed in text, or use bulleted lists or block quotes

There would also be advanced post privacy options, the option for color coded post privacy symbols, fullwidth images inline, and a bunch of other neat little additions.

I know it sounds stupid and obvious but man, putting ideas into notes instead of just having a vague concept of them in my head is SO useful!!!

I’ve been wanting to get a wide-brim festival hat for years but it’s always just been “yeah, I guess that’s an idea”
Now I’ve finally got a full note in Obsidian with links to various hats I like, their prices, the ideas I have about customizing them, etc. Now I’ve got a direction instead of just “hmmm yes hat”

Try and explain to someone that despite the fact that the thermostat reads 20, the whole house isn’t that temperature

“Yeah but 20C is 20C”

Sometimes I wonder where knowledge/innate understanding floors lie. Like I, for as long as I remember, have innately understood that a thermometer doesn’t read the temperature of an entire space. It reads a sample of where it is. Large spaces can fluctuate temperatures between random points MASSIVELY.

And this isn’t even talking about complex ideas of heat distribution, and I’m certainly not making assumptions about this person’s intelligence. Everyone knows it’s warmer closer to the fireplace than further away, I just assumed everyone can, and more crucially, would extrapolate that concept to other similar situations.

I was so astonished at needing to explain this that I kinda just changed the subject and moved on because I didn’t want them to feel like I was being shitty and calling them dumb in front of others

I was digging through task manager yesterday and it turns out Logitech installed something called Logi AI Prompt Builder to my system without asking.

I looked it up, and it’s just ANOTHER GPT prompt entry field. It doesn’t even do anything different than using ChatGPT or Bing or whatever.
