Using one weird Mac to try and get a cheap IDE -> SD adapter working for another weird Mac

Needless to say the PB 150 didn't like the SD card adapter. Here we are trying to format a 500MB HD out of a junked 5300. This also didn't work...but just trashing everything on the drive and installing 7.1.1 worked. This drive will probably fail soon, but a CF card adapter and mixed lot of small CF cards is on order 🤷‍♂️

Also, the HD utility Apple shipped with the 150 isn't so confidence inspiring 😅

Question! Is it ok to use polymer tantalum caps to replace the big 35v 100uf power board trash cans? This is for the Duo 280c.

On our way home from the vet! The little one up close had a stem cell procedure to help her torn knee heal, and the big boy in the way back got some meds for a rash.

They're usually together in the back seat but I didn't want the little one to get accidentally bonked around. Way back bro is pissed 😅

Today seems to have turned into a take apart day. This is the guts of a classic Kensington trackball, after a cleaning. Didn't bother pre-testing it since the wheels were basically seized with gunk.

Just heard firsthand from some folks who live near us: a relatively new, brand-name, from-Lowes lithium battery for a mower/weedwhacker caught fire in their attached garage, in the middle of the night. They woke up to 3' of nasty smoke hanging from the ceiling and were unable to put out what looked like a small fire. Everyone (including the cat - who didn't come home for 42 days) got out safely, but the house was a total loss. 😢

So...what are some best practices for battery safety?

It lives! A Quadra 660AV 😁

The caps hadn't leaked much, but were certainly bad. These were my first lifted pads - since this one 'looked good' I applied some heat with the iron and pulled a few caps...definitely a bad idea.

Anyhow, this is my first bodge wire attempt and it worked out just fine! Can't wait to mess with PlainTalk and the Geoport Adapter soon 🗣️🎙️

Any #globaltalk friends have an AV Mac? This videoconferencing software was on the 660AV restore disc. I can drop it on my share if anyone wants to try! It appears to maybe auto recognize anyone on 'the network' with the app running. I don't think it does audio though, since it has a weird dialer function.

So #marchintosh is ending, but as you all know, we celebrate 24/7/365 in this house!

This year has been super fun thanks to so many folks' efforts to make #globaltalk a thing! I'm going to stay online for the foreseeable future, but probably swap in an LC as router once I do a meanwell PSU swap.

And since mid-Feb, I've recapped ~10 Macs. Here is today's latest success, a real fighter: The Power Macintosh 6100/60! 😊
