@merecivilian I'm right there with ya. I currently use a kindle paperwhite with KoReader installed instead. I know I don't need the Libra Color but boy howdy do I really want one!
@maique@merecivilian I actually got burned awhile ago with a colour e-reader. A company had a kickstarter going. I saw they had done one successful kickstart before, albeit nearly a year delayed. So I went in with the expectation to get it late.
Over half the backers (including yours truly) never got our device and the ones that did complained about subpar quality. The company has now gone radio silent and we're left in the lurch. It's nice to see it being done by a proper company this time!
Oof, I had my first massive failure trying to do hand thrown gliders. I learnt the hard lesson that planes do not scale proportionately. I tried making a bigger version of one I had already made. After spending the last few days designing and printing out parts I got maybe six throws out of it. Every flight ended in a hard nose dive, and now the plane is in a state of disrepair. I think the issue was the weight got away from me. That's one failure down on my journey! 😅
@maique@merecivilian If you have a Google TV I can strongly recommend installing SmartTube. It's an alternate YouTube interface that blocks ads by default and, my favourite feature, allows you to switch between your profile and an anonymous profile. When the kids watch their cartoons I put it on anonymous profile so their shows don't end up on my history!
I have come to the realization that the joy of a 3D printer is not having the ability to print anything you want, the real joy comes from being able to print anything you DESIGN.
For my upcoming website overhaul (which ties into the Neatnik Accounts stuff that I’m still working on), I’m going all-in on embracing the server-driven, stateless nature of the hypertext transfer protocol. You’ll see barely any JS, and things that would normally be done instantly with JS will be done with a regular web request in the browser. Will this feel weird? Probably. Does it go against every super-slick “modern” web trend? Absolutely. Will I do it anyway? Heck yeah! 😅
@cliophate For quite some time I was using the Hisense A5 Pro as my phone. I think I had it for nearly two years. The only reason I am not still using it is I killed it via my own stupidity and wasn't in a position to spend that much on another phone. (It wasn't much to begin with compared to phones today, but I ended up choosing a cheap second hand phone).
It was fantastic, I loved using an eInk screen everyday, the battery life was amazing and I read so many books!
@maique Nice! I've only recently started using it for my family a few months ago. I am quite pleased with the performance and the easy to use interface. Luckily I know my kids aren't at the stage where they can bypass DNS blocks.
I have always wanted to get into rc plane design. I love watching channels like rctestflight, and want to learn the skills to design stuff like they do.
So, rather than waiting for it to magically happen like i normally do, i have actually started researching and fiddling around. I present my first iteration and my current iteration. I know they are jank, but I am really happy with how they turned out, and how they actually fly.
Man, I am currently in the process of setting up a new phone and it feels like every app wants notification permissions. I would turn off ALL notifications permanently if I could.
@maique@atog I dunno why but "maybe that was his assignment for the day" made me think of Mission Impossible.
"You're assignment for the day, should you choose to accept it, is to map the inside of the gardens. This message will self destruct in five seconds." Then the person rips off their Apple Vision Pro and throws it up in the air where it explodes into a million pieces.
One thing I greatly miss… is putting in that cartridge or CD into my game console, powering it on and just playing. No bullshit. Nothing online. No updates.
I don’t play much anymore, and I think that’s why. I feel like a big soul of gaming was lost.
@andycarolan@gabz@vincentritter I feel this. SNES was also my first and still is my favourite. I am actually playing my way through Donkey Kong Country having never beat it as a kid. (I am playing on emulation though. Closest thing I have to real SNES anymore is the SNES Mini they released awhile back)
IMO, the one unifying theory that explains UFOs/UAPs, Cryptids, Ghosts, Alien Abductions, Monsters, and any other high-strangeness phenomena, is that we are all on one giant, Holodeck... a Holoplanet if you will.
