On an early summer morning, the mist and fog still linger over the LaHave River on the south shore of Nova Scotia. A single sailboat is moored in the calm waters with the village of Middle LaHave on the eastern shore of the river. Utter tranquility, calm and not a sound to disturb the day. The wind was breathless. https://fineartamerica.com/featured/breathless-karen-cook.html #silentSunday #Sailing #Boating #NovaScotia #tranquility

Sunshine bright and cheerful, the Buttercup has long been associated with children's tales, and myths.

But the petals of this tiny flower serve a more important role in nature....their petals are reflective, and hold a pool of nectar not found in any other flower...making them irresistible to pollinators.

I just love their rich buttery color. https://fineartamerica.com/featured/beautiful-buttercups-karen-cook.html #Flowers #buttercups #wildflowers #FlowersonFriday #nature

  • I never tire of seeing a Bald Eagle. They seem so majestic and proud, but especially when perched in the tree tops surveying their domain. That dangerous beak, strong talons and those fierce eyes!

The adjective bald applies to the white feathers on their head...they are not actually bald. Those telltale white feathers do not appear until the bird has reached 5 years of age. Bald is beautiful! https://fineartamerica.com/featured/bald-is-beautiful-karen-cook.html #BaldEagleDay #birds #Eagles #Nature

my favorite summer guest is the Rose-Breasted Grosbeak! The male of the species is spectacular. His plumage is bold, especially the rose colored 'stain' on his chest.

And he is such a good parent! Tenderly feeding a sunflower seed to his young son, whose wings flutter with anticipation. https://fineartamerica.com/featured/a-fathers-tender-touch-karen-cook.html #nature #birds #birdwatching #FathersDay #HappyFathersDay

The Fort Point Museum & lighthouse in LaHave #NovaScotia is the location of the 1st landing in the new world by Samuel de Champlain & Pierre DeMonts in 1604 in what was originally named Fort Sainte-Marie de Grace

Now a National Historic Site of Canada, tells the story of the settlement of the land by Sir Isaac de Razilly, in 1632. After his death, Port Royal became the capitol of Acadia and later Nova Scotia, until 1749 when the capitol was moved to Halifax.

Cooper's Hawks are skillful fliers that are certainly unwanted visitors to backyard feeders, as their rapid attacks mean certain death for a small bird. But their beauty fascinates me. This bird was seemingly unconcerned as it perched, look around and dried off giving me plenty of time to shoot this photo. Look at those wings!https://fineartamerica.com/featured/coopers-wings-karen-cook.html #nature #birds #Hawks #WildlifeWednesday #birdwatching #Raptors

We spotted this lovely sight in #NovaScotia!

The antique car, rusted with age, its windows replaced by plastic which was held in place by tape is obviously not going anywhere any time soon! The lupines, in full bloom were a riot of color with their jewel tone blooms and bright green stalks.

Nova Scotia's roadside hills and ditches are painted the colors of the rainbow in June and July with the lupines. https://fineartamerica.com/featured/a-drive-in-the-country-karen-cook.html?newartwork=true #lupines #wildflowers #Flowers #FlowersonFriday

The stunning and timeless beauty of apple blossoms! It is springtime in the Annapolis Valley of Nova Scotia.. the annual Apple Blossom Festival is nearly here and the apple trees are just beginning to share their beautiful blossoms with us.

Pinks and whites, the scent is as incredible as their beauty. Fresh from Heaven to Earth! https://fineartamerica.com/featured/fresh-from-heaven-to-earth-karen-cook.html?newartwork=true #farming #agriculture #appleBlossoms #nature #beautyinnature

  • Now we can all use some advice, or words of wisdom can't we?

So here is what the busy little honey bee has to tell us:

Create a buzz
Sip life's sweet moments
Mind your own beeswax
Work together
Always find your way home
Stick close to your honey
Bee yourself! https://fineartamerica.com/featured/advice-from-a-honey-bee-karen-cook.html #WorldBeeDay #Bees #SavetheBees #nature #inspirationalquote

The tiny fishing village of Peggy's Cove #NovaScotia is home to less than 50 year round residents.
A working fishing village, it is home to a few weathered homes, fishing sheds,& fishing boats anchored at the wharf

The dory fishing boats were moored in the calm waters of the protected harbor, giving such a feeling of tranquility as they gently bobbed up and down in the current. https://fineartamerica.com/featured/peggys-boats-karen-cook.html #Travel #PeggysCove #Fishing #VisitNovaScotia #Seaside

Look at that face and look at the size of that peanut! Can he? Is it possible to get that peanut stuffed in those cheeks and back to the burrow for a snack over the long winter months?

I love those tiny paws clutching each end of the peanut in an effort to adjust the weight and angle of the nut as he tries to figure out just how that nut is going home with him. He makes me smile! https://fineartamerica.com/featured/smile-karen-cook.html #nature #chipmunk #wildlifephotography #wildlife
