Yay! Managed to get #forgejo runner working with #podman on my #RHEL9 server! Ran my first action, so I now have my little CI/CD working :) Big thanks to https://copr.fedorainfracloud.org/coprs/ne0l/forgejo/ for making it easy to setup.

In #Bayern haben wir ja auch so ne komische #AI, die Sätze ausspuckt die irgendwie normal klingen, aber bei näherer Betrachtung ziemlich unsinnig sind. Ja, ich rede von AI-wanger. #Sarcasm

FTR. "AI" isn't just LLMs. Besides generative "AI" we also have iterative "AI" and classic Machine Learning. The latter two are well established and useful tools, IMHO. Throwing them all under the generic "AI" umbrella term doesn't do them justice.

It is that time of the year where I promote the 42/C4 concept again. It's the result of many years of working with projects and leadership/ego problems. It defines a better way to organise, where ego is removed and code becomes iteratively better and better, in unexpected ways. It was written by a friend of mine who has left us years ago.

The technical language:

The human explanation:

From the wonderful book Social Architecture.

@unfrosted Yes, local branches where you develop your code are perfectly fine. the main repo however shouldn't have per-issue or per-feature branches is his approach. An early version of his thoughts at http://hintjens.com/blog:24 might help.

The hardest thing on social networks (for mostly men) seems to be to not make everything about you.

I see so many replies under my toots by people who want to derail the topic to something that is about them. I call that #ThreadJacking and I kindly ask you to not do that.

From my amateur psychological analysis, this is because in the online world, the reflex to anything is the "Yes, but" approach. The "Yes, but" approach is meant to restore self-confidence when confronted with something that could make you think. Even if you agree. You have this urge to somehow establish your perceived superiority by not simply agreeing. I don't know how to solve this, I can only ask you to be more positive by default and express support whenever you agree. I try to do that.

The NY case against #Trump was often described by the media as the “runt of the litter” compared to the other 3 cases. Well. It’s the only case with a conviction now. And the decision by the jury leaves zero doubt. Guilty on all charges. I tip my hat to the prosecutors for building a solid case and seeing it through. I tip my hat to Stormy Daniels for taking the stand and refusing to be intimidated. To Michael Cohen. And to the judge for staying laser focused on keeping the schedule.

jwildeboer, (edited )
@jwildeboer@social.wildeboer.net avatar

And FYI: in this case, should Trump still be elected president, he cannot pardon himself. But he can (and will) file an appeal in the next 30 days. Then his lawyers have 6 months to file their justifications for an appeal. And how soon the appeal case will be heard is anyone’s guess. But during appeal the sentence judge Merchan will announce on the 11th of July will most likely be stayed. So this is not the end of this story.

jwildeboer,
@jwildeboer@social.wildeboer.net avatar

@AlanSill @optimisey and the 3 other cases are under federal law, so he can wipe them out after election, no pardon needed, as none of the 3 cases will be able to end in time before the election.

Maybe #AMZN #Amazon as the big supporter of #OpenSource they always claim to be could donate traffic to the #Fedora project in a better way? By putting up some mirrors of their own? It would be greatly appreciated! #JustSayin https://www.phoronix.com/news/AWS-Cloud-Breaks-Fedora-Mirrors

UPDATE: Amazon engineering is looking at identifying the root cause for this traffic spike and at finding ways to solve it.

jwildeboer, (edited )
@jwildeboer@social.wildeboer.net avatar

@bookwar I didn’t complain about Amazon not supporting the Fedora project. I proposed they could add mirrors of their own to take the load of existing mirrors, caused by instances running in their network by their customers. Seems this is being looked at, so that’s a good thing. I’ve updated my toot accordingly.

Introducing Moore’s inverse law of “AI”. Every 12 months the energy, transistors and time needed to reach a certain quality level of generative AI models gets reduced by 75%. #SarcasmButOnlyHalf

We are now adding more delay as there was whatever other problem that caused trains to queue up before Nürnberg. By now I just want to be at home and go to bed. #CrossBorderRail

jwildeboer,
@jwildeboer@social.wildeboer.net avatar

To recap: the polish train was perfectly on time all the time from Warsaw to the German border. The German border control did a passport check which caused 12 minutes delay that we partly eliminated when we arrived in Berlin. After that it was ICE and (unfortunately) as usual the delays started piling up and now we will arrive with 15 minutes delay, which is not that bad compared to other trips. Still, just being on time is the rare exception when traveling with Deutsche Bahn :( #CrossBorderRail

Took a taxi home and can finally shower and go to bed. Tomorrow morning it’s office time, Thursday is yet another bank holiday. This concludes the #CrossBorderRail thread for my trip from #Munich to #Warsaw and back. I hope you enjoyed the ride! Good night :)

@jwildeboer@social.wildeboer.net avatar

Final note: Sure, there were some annoying hiccups, but let’s be honest. I made it without real big problems. It was quite relaxing. Riding through the polish countryside was really interesting. Lots of small train stations looked like freshly renovated and people seem to use trains quite frequently. Warsaw was a wonderful experience and I hope I can return again for a more private trip. Take a train. Feel better. It works for me.
