Today's example of why I don't fear AI or Internet-driven cheating in my classes.

My syllabus statement on AI generative text. Feel free to reuse CC0 and/or critique here with responses. Responses also welcome if you’re gonna use it (I might put a tally in the annual report)

I find my best mobile Mastodon experience is in a mobile browser (usually Firefox). I find it just as easy to navigate as any app and I also have access to all my lists and settings. I just reloaded the apps this evening to see if I felt improvement (I did not).

What’s your preferred mode of mobile Mastodon? Feel free to add details in the replies.

Hi @Lotje I'm Josh, a PI with the Digital Index of North American Archaeology (DINAA). We use archaeological site numbers as key identifiers to link site records, lit, & collections for pubsci. I'm writing a brief history of Smithsonian Trinomial system +its influence and found your great blog from 2014. I fail to find your email but fortunately the fediverse is here for us!

Could we talk/email/msg about your archival work? I'd love to reference you.

Paging folks w/exp in training #MicrosoftTeams #Microsoft #Teams

I want to build a train-the-trainer network at my campus to help alleviate rampant ignorance in Teams use (admins won't do anything).

Suggestions for resources to use? Manuals, blogs, videos, etc.?

I am not Teams fluent, but I understand deeply how hardware, file systems, and networks function so I can seem passingly competent.

Thanks!

I'm updating a little instruction set for students to broadly search for civic technology and open government posts on the Mastodon network.

Any suggestions for hashtags to add to my list at the bottom of this post?

Or suggestions for active accounts to use to prime a list? Pic includes current list members and some instructions.

Yesterday morning, appreciating early modern conservation heritage. This morning, experiencing late stage capitalism to enhance yesterday’s appreciation.

The Venn Diagram of state archaeological database specialist and ChickFila counter server intersect in Kentucky at $17/hr. … the state is obviously hoping their archaeological offices die and their current and future employees die too. None of this should be construed to suggest that any worker should receive less than a living wage.

Tell me you’re a bot farm without telling me … I got followed by this account targeting nothing but “Josh” people from a sketchy domain … it felt slightly weird at first blocking whole domains on Mastodon, but I’ve done it a couple of times now and have realized how important it is for both a personal and ecosystem experience.

3. Main page for truth social.co.in posts show basically nothing but the admin
2. Inspection of original truthsocial.co.in profile following nothing but accounts named Josh
4. Blocking the entire domain truth social.co.in

I just received this email. Current thinking is ...

  1. record all administrative directives for a year
  2. develop rules for prompts to generate administrative output
  3. Anarchy

A thread requested by a colleague who is admirably live-tweeting #ACRA2023 #Archaeology conference, asking about my opinions for #HigherEd #AcademicChatter #Anthropology connections to private sector cultural resource management:
1/n. Reach Out – request a meeting with the chair of your local college departments that house anthropology or other programs of interest, get their dean in on that meeting (or a second meeting). Prime an information-and-activity pipeline.

I was just testing a Zoom room for a meeting. Is Zoom bombing even a thing any more? I really doubt it was ever a thing. In all the video conferences I've been in since 2020, I only ever saw one get hit in late spring 2020 and it was just loud music. I don't think meeting organizers are using security settings with any more regularity than back then.
