WITH AI THE POSSIBILITIES ARE ENDLESS.

Yes, an endless supply of bad ideas.

jmaris, (edited ) to France
@jmaris@eupolicy.social avatar

Many of my compatriots have been bragging recently about how #France was right about #StrategicAutonomy

But as Russia pounds #Avdiivka and Ukrainian soldiers face growing ammunition shortages, 🇫🇷 is blocking purchases of ammo for #Ukraine because it comes from outside the #EU, again putting its defence industry before the Ukrainian soldiers' lives.

It's shameful: we pretend to want to lead EU defence, but only look after our own interests. CEE will never trust us.

@abolitionniste voilà le problème, vous mettez une idéologie au dessus de la vie des Ukrainiens et la sécurité de l'Europe. C'est inadmissible.

I think at least part of the reason free software apps lack in ambition is that many of us don't use any mainstream apps, so we're not even aware of the cool stuff we could be stealing from them.

I wonder how we could bridge that gap 🤔

jmaris,
@jmaris@eupolicy.social avatar

@tbernard I'll add to this rewind.ai : an app that helps you remember anything you did On your pc

If I could have one feature in #Gnome right now, it'd be something like #rewindAI: a tool that tracks my PC usage and makes it fully searchable.

Finally found time to add #RSS to my Jekyll blog ❤️

onrust, to Netherlands

The Netherlands was occupied in 1940-'45. We had a resistance movement that targeted the occupying forces, sometimes violently.

I gather the term 'terrorist' wasn't as much en vogue back then as it's now, but the occupation may have just as well called the Dutch resistance a 'terrorist movement'.

Hamas is one of the many, many resistance movements in occupied Palestine right now. Whether you label the movement 'terrorist' or 'resistance' depends quite a bit on where you stand vis-a-vis the zionist occupation.

jmaris,
@jmaris@eupolicy.social avatar

@onrust Hamas threw their own people of buildings, execute LGBRQI+ people, and live lives or luxury in Dubai while their people suffer. They are not the "freedom fighters" you paint them as, and they are certainly not good guys.

Don't insult the Dutch resistance with that kind or comparison.

As @jon quite rightly highlights: a hydrogen tram is about the single dumbest public transit idea this decade, and that, frankly, is saying a lot.

https://jonworth.eu/a-hydrogen-tram-for-gorlitz-about-the-worst-idea-i-can-imagine/

jmaris,
@jmaris@eupolicy.social avatar

@Hypx @jon No, I prefer a tram powered by overhead wires. The overhead wires ALREADY exist but you'd know that if you read the article.

Hydrogen is a bad fit for short-distance vehicles which will run in an area where electricity is already available.

jmaris, to Ukraine
@jmaris@eupolicy.social avatar

It's not enough @josepborrellf Some EU countries continue to export shells while #Ukraine is experiencing a terrible shortage. Ukrainians are dying so that we can export abroad.

The EU needs to expand production and limit exports to Ukraine only.

Not ideal that the European Commission's page on "Better Regulation" appears to have gone missing"

jmaris, to opensource
@jmaris@eupolicy.social avatar

The #FOSDEM panels on the #CRA and #PLD underlined the divide between policy-makers and #OpenSource devs.

To bridge that divide, I think policy-makers have to work to make the #EU more accessible, which is why I decided to launch https://unfsckthe.eu/, a collaborative knowledge-base that will provide documentation for the EU, and help make it easier for the open source community to get their voices heard in #Brussels

You can also contribute on Github!

@ainali fsck is an important disk utility, I have no idea what you are talking about 😕

jmaris,
@jmaris@eupolicy.social avatar

@ainali I'm sorry to hear the name is problematic for you. I think I'm going to stick with it. I hope the resources it provides can be helpful, even if you don't feel you can contribute! Have a nice evening!

jmaris,
@jmaris@eupolicy.social avatar

@sofiaritz Thanks :D I'll do my best to keep it moving and find some more contributors in Parliament. I'm hoping to fill up the pages a bit over the coming weeks. If every (or anyone else) has time, feedback is also really handy: us eurocrats often forget that not everybody knows about our weird acronyms and strange procedures ^

Was amazing to talk to the @Mastodon team at #fosdem about getting #EU politicians on #Mastodon!

I hope we can expand the #EU's official instance soon and get MEPs onboard!
