Professional Brit Farage shows his commitment to the UK by shunning the election there so he can help out Donald Trump in the US.

Do you remember how we were discussing taste and evaluation a little while ago?

In connection with issues we talked about, this is the kind of story that interests me:

However, I'm neither Chinese nor that well informed on Sinophobia, so I would be keen to hear comments from anybody more clued up than I am.

Whitney Mitchell, who was engaged to Foster before his death at the hands of Perry, laid out her feelings about the pardon in a statement sent to the Observer.

“I loved Garrett Foster. I thought we were going to grow old together. He was the love of my life. He still is. I am heartbroken by this lawlessness,“ she said. “With this pardon, the Governor has desecrated the life of a murdered Texan and US Air Force veteran, and impugned [the] jury’s just verdict. He has declared that Texans who hold political views that are different from his—and different from those in power—can be killed in this State with impunity.”

I''m one of what seems to be a small minority of Kpop fans in not liking aespa -- Supernova.

This experience brings me back to questions that I consider frequently:

  • Do we really believe that taste is purely subjective, as is so frequently affirmed in pop culture media?

  • Does it make sense to say that one can have defective taste or in some way be mistaken in one's artistic preferences?

Can you recommend some science fiction for me to read?

I haven't read much of this genre, but I will tell you a little of my likes and dislikes in what I have read so that you have a better idea of what I might enjoy:

  • At the moment I am reading Philip K Dick's "A Scanner Darkly". I don't hate it, but I am not in love with the drug use and the late sixties/ early seventies hippie speak. On the other hand, the theme of surveillance has caught my attention.

  • I have also enjoyed the loss . .of identity narrative in "Flow My Tears the Policeman Said" and the counterfactual history of "The Man in the High Castle"."Ubik" and "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep" both impressed me. Although I am attracted by what I hear about the religious dimension of "The Transmigration of Timothy Archer", I don't have an urge to read PKD beyond that.

  • I read Stanislaw Lem's 'Solaris" some time ago but remember enjoying it.

  • I absolutely hated the right wing politics of "Ender's Game". I also disliked "Stranger in a Strange Land".

  • As a teenager, I found "Dune" unreadable, but did like John Wyndham.

  • Science Fiction or Science fictionish films I have enjoyed include Blade Runner" , "Gattaca", 'The Truman Show"
and 'Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind".

  • I disliked the original "Star Wars" and count myself lucky in that I have not wasted time or money on the rest of the .franchise

  • I am much more interested in ideas, societies, relationships, and language than I am in whizzbang technology.

I'd be grateful for any suggestions - thanks!
