Geel Girl is this summer’s equivalent to The Valet file for me.
IYNYN. Suffice it to say I loved that film and watched it many, many times. A review I wrote with spoilers after a warning. The Valet is not the film you think it's going to be. And Geek Girl isn’t just the teen rom-com you think it is going to be.
An absolutely spot on review of Geek Girl and the top notch adaptation the team responsible have done of the books. This is very close to what I’d have written if I was reviewing it.
Geek Girl review -- this joyful adaptation is non-stop fun
The onscreen version of the bestselling YA novels loses absolutely none of the originals' charm. It's fresh, lively and energetic -- with actors that channel the source material brilliantly - Lucy Mangan.
A follow up revelation. The team Mike Gibson was playing for (North of Ireland) merged with the team I was playing for in 2006 to form Civil Service North of Ireland at Stormont when the North ground at the Gasworks in Belfast was sold by developers.
@LoneLocust Both scored 190+, and the bowling looked okay. I only watched the highlights, so it'll be biased towards batting, but the Canadians bowled to straight for me. But it may have been bowling to their field and influenced by short boundaries. Six over extra cover is a standard shot now. It wasn't when I played!
Fellow Americans, if you go to a Cricket match at a stadium and come in possession of the ball during the match, you are required to throw the ball back on to the field. And quickly.

I still have 50ish #NewMusic releases to listen to today. I filled my usual weekly listening slot watching the new Geek Girl series. Twice. It was time well spent.
TIL of the word Hypocorism. It describes the use of pet names for people. Sometimes derived from their actual names, such as Tobes from Toby, and sometimes not. I learned this from Geek Girl show. I don’t recall it from the books, but it may be in them.
Yikes. Filming from the inside of a Cat 5 hurricane. Plus footage of the wind as the front and rear walls of the eye pass. As well as the damage caused.

It’s fab. Two episodes to go. I hope it has enough viewers to trigger a second season. 😊
Also, read the books. They are brilliant. If you think you are not in the target demographic, just ignore that. They are brill stories and have characters from teens to pensioners. I reread all six last year. Bloody marvellous 😊
