Coffee and cookie break time! #Vegan #Coffee

hischeekiness,

@andycarolan Does it allow you run into everyone with zero consequences for a limited time period?

If not, ask for a refund.

hischeekiness,

@i_am_not_a_robot Intruiging.

A feeling that may be spoiled when it’s something I’d heard and forgotten about… 😆

hischeekiness,

@i_am_not_a_robot Easy to forget what day it is at this time of year. I thought it was Friday a moment ago. 😀

Look, should I continue this account here or not?

Here, most of the engagement, lately, is complaining about what I'm doing or not doing. Unlike what I experience on Twitter, BlueSky, Insta and Threads. And to the point of losing all pleasure.

Yes, I rarely post alt text because it's time-consuming, I have to manage 5 accounts and there aren't enough people on my Patreon for me to devote enough time to it.

Yes, sometimes I put links to Twitter because I've been on it for 5 years and...

hischeekiness,

@TheSpaceshipper Yes. I may be silent, but it’s a pleasure to see what you post, I learn about new things and it’s a regular daily highlight.

Is there any way you can just mass mute or ignore?

There were some Kia EVs parked outside a local mall yesterday. How did cars become almost £60k each?

hischeekiness,

@andycarolan I blame the inflation of car prices in general on people doing part-payments and it becoming normalised. They never really own they rent, then ownership cost has crept up much faster as people don’t see the larger number. They’ve become desensitised to how much things cost. Same with mobile phones. The is a much larger ownership of bling brands too, people aspire to certain brands and the rental cost fools them into feeling affordable.

The evolution of seed packaging.

The most interesting part isn’t the reduction in the number of seeds, the increase in price or the change in marketing to target children.

The most interesting thing, at least in my opinion, is the change in the sowing season and growing instructions. It used to be all year round and now it’s a narrow window despite being indoors. It also now has an instruction to soak the seeds.

Three seed packets for Mimosa Pudica, aka the Sensitive Plant. Front view. All three feature a pencil with eraser top touching the folding leaves of the fern-like plant. The newest on the right features a cartoon character version of the plant with a face of the pink flowers and limbs made of the leaves.

I'm revising the art style for Beep Boop slightly. I'm sticking with the #zxspectrum's 15-color palette, but I'm using them more freely, without the attribute-clash limitations.

I think it has a more of an "arcade" feel to it. Do you agree? 🤖⚡️🕹️ #indiegame #gamedev #pixelart

Woo!

Some of you may not understand what “Woo Wednesdays” are.

Fair enough, I may have invented the term and I don’t exactly have a massive sphere of influence.

You know the term Hump Day? Well, though I get the sentiment, that Wednesdays are in the middle of the Work Week and need to be “got over”, I want to, and try to, be more positive in my approach to them.

Hence the Woo!

Be positive about Wednesdays, they should be embraced. 👍

Okay, big news for everyone with a WordPress blog, including people with a free blog on wordpress.com!

You can now turn any WordPress blog into a Fediverse server which can be followed from Mastodon etc.

I've updated the instructions on how to do this at:

Just to repeat, this is now available to ALL WordPress blogs including free tier ones. The free tier has slightly different instructions, but effect is same.

This new Mastodon version has completely messed up the way I used to use the search functionality.

How do you search your own posts & interactions you’ve had with others?

It used to be straightforward. But now it brings up those who have opted into the “new search functionality”, so is all recent posts from people I’ve never interacted with. I don’t want that.

I can’t see any way to filter it. I’ve tried using “from:” with my user handle, but no joy.

Any ideas?

I recently joined an exercise programme called THRIVE run by The Exercise Clinic. I was referred to them by my oncologist at Royal Marsden to help with fatigue caused by my ongoing hormone therapy for prostate cancer. Part of the programme is to become more accountable about my exercise by logging it and reporting it. Today I went for a walk on part of the North Downs Way and the Surrey Hills.

A steep sided track falls gently downhill with bright green trees on either side and in the distance
A landscape taken from the top of a hill looking far into the distance. Fields and buildings can be seen. There is a bush on the right foreground. The sky is grey and cloudy and quite dramatic.
A route map produced by Strava showing a distance of 8.4km was walked in 1hr 38min and a total of 10,634 steps.

Week 2 of Cubs tonight was a rollercoaster. And full of dynamic readjustments.

We had the Grand Howl outside, because why not in this weather?

I lead my 1st ever Whole Section activity, a version of Banding Together which explores animals being harmed by litter & has a short game with an elastic band.

We then did a Code Of Conduct.

A 5 second (not really, but it was super short & in a restricted floor space) Sleeping Lions as next activity was set up.

TBC…

hischeekiness,

…Then I lead my 2nd ever Whole Section activity, a version of Lights On Lights Off which is about energy conservation and involves another short game…which we decided to play twice, partially as they didn’t follow the rules properly the first time, and also because it was fun, time was running out, and it felt right.

And we finished by talking about what will happen with the Code Of Conduct & then walking through next week’s Meeting, which is Out Of Hut.

TBC again…but with background…

hischeekiness,

…And so. As I said, I passed on my opportunity to do the Grand Howl. I wasn’t confident in what, talking-wise, I had for the 2 activities I had planned. It seemed sensible to have less to think about.

I very deliberately said “version of” in my previous 2 posts. Neither activity went as it should, partially because of me, and also because of the Cubs. Hence dynamic readjustments. I adjusted what I had already adjusted, often on the fly. And honestly, not well at times.

And there’s more…

hischeekiness,

I didn’t really want to consult my prompt cards at all, and I kept it to between the activities, but with both activities I ended up not covering many of the topics I had down. A combination of brain freeze, lack of experience and patience-testing young people.

Bits were cut all over the place. The games got played, it was my talking that was axed, and quite a bit at that.

I was hot & flustered during activity 1, I've not experienced that for a long time, it was “old me”.

Still more…

hischeekiness,

…The 2nd activity went pretty well. Sure I fluffed the brief intro, but I somehow on-the-fly pretty much ironed out the next bit that had been troubling me in planning. It was pretty confidently delivered, and in stark contrast to my first activity. And I cut out big bits I had written, front & back. The entire back end!

I had switched around the order of activities this afternoon, and discussed with Cub Leader tonight, before we started, how to proceed. Like I said…a lot of things changed.

hischeekiness,

Yes, I know this is getting long. Sorry. I babble. 😜

My plan for tonight’s activity choice was two fold.

One: we had previously decided to complete (for many) the World Challenge Award & marked this Meeting for tackling the Environment aspect.

Two: I personally want to make all activities count towards multiple badges or awards, if possible.

Tonight’s choices also “should” count for Environmental Conservation and Community Impact.

I do wonder if the cuts still make them count. Probably. 🤞

hischeekiness,

I’ll end this now.

I’ve learned a lot. “Old me” did resurface unfortunately. TL:DR my account here, I used to be very shy & quiet. The hot & flustered is something I used to regularly experience, but it’s been quite a few years & it had been less & less regular prior to that.

I wasn’t caught unawares, I could tell there was a good chance of a reoccurrence in the latter stages of my planning, as I wasn’t comfortable with what I wanted to say & what needed said to the Cubs during the activities.

hischeekiness, to random

Woo!

Today’s schedule would be the same as last week, if it weren’t for that I’m theoretically doing a lot at tonight’s Cubs Meeting, & I feel I need headspace time for preparation & mental rehearsal.

This means I’m not helping with junior tennis this afternoon.

The Cubs plan involves me running Grand Howl for the 1st time, & then running 2 activities/games I’ve suggested for the whole Pack. ALL FIRSTS!

So, 3 things dealing with the whole Pack simultaneously.

Induction evening on my course. Very interesting and friendly mix of people from a surprisingly wide area.

The staff running the course are SO friendly, and whatever they are “on” we all need some.

We can eat and drink in class and bring our own coffee mugs!

I do wonder if I took over the team icebreaker a little too much, but there were times when I thought we weren’t going to decide on how to proceed before the time ran out. Our team was last, but it was fun exercise.
