Where do Terraform and OpenTofu go from here? https://theregister.com/2024/05/24/opinion_column_terraform/ by @sjvn

When I look at my tea leaves, I see a good chance of Terraform and
OpenTofu reuniting as an #opensource project once IBM acquires HashiCorp
.

funnelfiasco,
@funnelfiasco@hachyderm.io avatar

@sjvn curious how you see that playing out. In the spirit of "fool me once", it seems like the best way to do it is for IBM to give the Terraform name to LF and having the former OpenTofu be the canonical project. But, of course, that might not align with whatever IBM has planned for making money.

To the person(s) having fun with my credit card this morning: I suspect trying to pay Canadian Immigration with a fraudulent card won't look good on your visa application.

    I think there was something else I was going to do before I shut down the laptop for the weekend, but I can't think of it and my todo list doesn't know what I'm talking about, so I guess not.

    I'll be presenting " 101: Dip into the Delicious World of Software Supply Chain Security" as part of the Cloud Native Computing Foundation's Live series at noon Eastern on June 11. There will be puns.

    I want the equivalent of 'lint' or 'ruff' for GitHub repos. Does the repo name match a pattern? Are the right issue labels set up? Et cetera. I can write a script to do this, but if it already exists, a pointer would be welcome: how do you manage the 780 repos your org has?

    funnelfiasco,
    @funnelfiasco@hachyderm.io avatar

    @gvwilson OpenSSF Scorecard (https://securityscorecards.dev/) might cover a few of the things you're looking for (or things that you're not but you maybe should be). I've never thought about a project configuration linter, though. The TODO group has something kind of in that direction: https://github.com/todogroup/repolinter but it's more about the code than the repo itself.

    I'm not aware of anything that solves your problem directly, but I'd be interested in contributing to a solution if you decide to build one.

    @larsmb ish. There's a big difference between A/B testing and A/B/C/D/E/F testing, though. Not just in analyzing the results, but just in figuring out which combinations can/should be put together. And not everything is telemetrizable (that's a word now).

    @josh mostly-uninformed thought I just had: community-driven projects should be under a 501(c)3. Company-driven projects are fine under a 501(c)6.

    Does this make sense or am I drawing a distinction without a difference?
