Those can be angle grinder hardened by what you fill the tubes with.

I have seen news stories (but cant find them now, thanks 2024 web search) about techniques for improving those. I recall something about aircraft cable (wire rope) inside to make cutting much more tedious.

elithebearded,
@elithebearded@fed.qaz.red avatar

@jon I have not heard of that. I would have thought concrete Myself, but maybe something that's normally solid yet becomes a gooey sticky mess when heated would be good. You know like tar or pitch.

Macos $HOME/Library is really fucking determined to make my Unix-y "find ~ -conditions" habits miserable.

elithebearded,
@elithebearded@fed.qaz.red avatar

@nitpicking
Besides sticking a bunch of stuff that would be in a dot dir in a regular Unix in ~/Library (which a straight "find ~" but not a "find ~/*" would search), the stuff in there has weird permissions generating pop-ups and error messages. It's slow and noisy and feels like "find /var" as a regular user instead of like looking through my stuff.

There is a country with over 60% of its exports in the category "Planes, Helicopters, and/or Spacecraft" and that surprised me.

I'll give you 4 hours to guess, and schedule a reply here with the answer for 19:00

I’m considering offering discounts on fonts for websites that are not annoying. 10% off for each of the following:

  • No cookie/privacy consent is needed.
  • No pop-ups or other dickbars.
  • The homepage uses less than 1 megabyte of data to load.
  • Basic functionality doesn’t require JavaScript.
  • The layout works in a small 320px-wide viewport.
elithebearded,
@elithebearded@fed.qaz.red avatar

@HEX Do people with sites like that buy fonts for their sites?

People actually thought dishes like “Avocado Jelly Waldorf with Mayonnaise” were decent and a good idea.

@mikey @KanaMauna @thomasfuchs I can't say I've tried them. I have had other agar based jellied confections. My impression is agar works but can't get as stiffly gelled as the meat based stuff. It's a small sacrifice overall for avoiding prion diseases.

First, it’s great that @MichaelWhelan is on Mastodon. What an amazing artist.

Second, his recent post featured a spherical alien that I instantly recognized from my childhood. https://mastodon.art/@MichaelWhelan/112428886103083708

It’s from this book, published in 1980, which had a cover image that is also burned into my brain.

I am down to 28 copies (as of May 28) of Six Centuries of Type & Printing, a letterpress-printed book in an edition of 425. The book traces printing with type before Gutenberg through the present day across all technological developments. Typeset in hot metal in North Yorkshire, printed in London, bound in Germany, the hardcover book is covered in green cloth and comes in a slipcase of the same fabric. https://glog.glennf.com/tiny-type-museum-time-capsule-and-more/six-centuries-letterpress Some copies remain with Tiny Type Museum slipcase stamping.

It appears I have radiation burns.

I spent an hour and a half with unsatisfactory shielding just minutes away from a G2V class fusion reactor.

elithebearded,
@elithebearded@fed.qaz.red avatar

@NanoRaptor Hereabouts the common recommendation for that sort of thing is aloe vera applied topically. Not sure if thats the local (to you) cure. For all I know the Aussie cure is dettol and a pint.

Either way, do be careful around those reactors. They have been known to cause cancer.

Tried to use "identify" from imagemagick to find out some details about a .mkv video file. It failed but left a 18G file in /tmp filling the partition and causing strange errors in other programs until I figured out what happened.

Nice job there.
