Can someone please make a 1Password clone that isn’t a pile of garbage? Pretty please?

This message brought to you by the iPad Safari Extension refusing to fill credentials.

dxzdb,
@dxzdb@mastodon.social avatar

@caseyliss is this 1PW7 or 8?
I've started trying 1PW8 on macOS and don't see too many issues so far - but it is scary. I've always seen certain websites that won't autofill, and 1PW7 fairly often doesn't store the password. But I pre-save the password as I set up the account.

@MrRooni and team might want to wade through this?

dxzdb,
@dxzdb@mastodon.social avatar

@robnich @MrRooni I wonder if recent versions fixed any of those issues?

I just put 1PW8 v8.10 on a old MBP running Catalina - and I haven't see it mess up yet. Also a family member has it on a new MBP on Sonoma - I haven't heard any complaints.

I found a thing with 1PW7 where I think I'm deleting characters of a password and I’ve actually got items in the vault highlighted. 1PW7 silently archives and makes them disappear - whereas 1PW8 asks you on the first one if you want to archive it.👍

@viticci I’m sure many folks have already @-ed you about this, but there’s been a Calculator app on the Apple Watch since 2019 (watchOS 6). It was one of the first apps on the system written in SwiftUI.

Any #writers here? Are you fans of Scrivener, or Ulysses, or perhaps Obsidian Notes? Looking around for a writing system that will be future-proof. Also love the idea of using Markdown because that’s what my blogs all use now. #writing #writersofmastodon

@clive @LLS @suzannealdrich That project is like a storage database for me so it’s not like I’m typing in it all the time.

It would be interesting to learn what’s happening.

dxzdb,
@dxzdb@mastodon.social avatar

@LLS @clive @suzannealdrich

It's definitely not fixed by a new file. If I duplicate an offending document, open a new Scrivener project & slide it in - it immediately does it. The delay depends on how fast I type - for the small descriptions I'm adding it is typically a 4 - 6 second delay when I finish typing to when to displays it. This file a ~12700 words. Pretty much every line has been pasted in from elsewhere with small edits in Scrivener.

I think there's something “bad" pasted in.

@LLS @clive @suzannealdrich 2/2

Export to RTF & import roundtrip doesn't help.

I haven't poked at the Scrivener forum in years, but there's an answer from 2014 that says they haven't seen typing lag in years.

Other files in the same project have no issues. It doesn't seem to follow size. One with ~13000 has no issue, one with ~3000 is starting to show the issue.

Zap Gremlins and other Text Tidying don't seem to help.

hope you never hit this!

dxzdb,
@dxzdb@mastodon.social avatar

@LLS @clive @suzannealdrich Good to know!

Any insight as to how or when Scrivener slows down on big-ish documents? I end up needing to split things up eventually. I started using Scrivener to capture tons of links and over time it becomes intolerable, when it lags my typing by a few seconds even on a modern Mac.

I see that Ulysses markets against this by saying: “Projects cannot get too big" I thought they used to say “never slow down” but maybe I imagined that.

“Pizza Toast” for dinner. Whenever I make a tomato sauce I tend to make a lot (1.75 gallons this time - a bit more than usual) and we freeze some, have on pasta a couple of nights, and I used to make lasagna but that’s too much cheese for my remodeled digestive system. For variety I also make “pizza toast” for lunch or dinner to use up some sauce in a meal that feels different.

Three for my wife (first plate) are all on sourdough rye bread she made: (1/2)

Wife’s three pieces of “pizza toast” done and played with some steamed asparagus arranged somewhat artfully on the plate.
My three pieces of “pizza toast” ready to be toasted for the second time.
My three pieces of “pizza toast” ready to eat.

dxzdb,
@dxzdb@mastodon.social avatar

@GeekAndDad I just made sauce from scratch for the first time recently. I think I got about 1/2 a gallon. So did you chop up tons of tomatoes? I was dicing them for a while (as the recipe instructed) and then I gave up and put them in a food processor.

Even in a very small workshop, there's room for hidden or non-obvious tools and features. Here are some secrets in the Tiniest Workshed in Scotland: https://youtu.be/6gat3XlUn_w

dxzdb,
@dxzdb@mastodon.social avatar

@mattgemmell Yeah - I meant things like is that glass? Did you build it or was it a kit? Do you heat the greenhouse? How's the wind affect that? Probably not a whole series like your tool shed 😏

dxzdb,
@dxzdb@mastodon.social avatar

@mattgemmell Very fun!
I need to upgrade to that broom!
The “disco” lights were the most surprising. Shouldn't it locked to purple 😁

I wondered if smashing work pieces into walls was an issue.

Your solution is quite cheap - but this is nice for a tool bag: https://www.amazon.com/SE-8036TM-NEW-Telescoping-Magnetic-Capacity/dp/B000RB3XBA?th=1

You should do (get your wife to do/allow?) a video on the greenhouse.

@mattgemmell interesting - thanks! So, not as much innovation for you there.

My wife just discovered entirely by accident that there's a new government thing businesses have to register with: https://www.fincen.gov/news/news-releases/us-beneficial-ownership-information-registry-now-accepting-reports

Seems to apply even to tiny businesses that make no money selling books such as https://www.skaeth.com. 😛

Looks like if you have a corp or LLC you're going to have to register for it before the end of the year and there's fines or something if you don't?

Kind of ridiculous she only discovered it by accident. Shouldn't they have at least mailed something?

dxzdb,
@dxzdb@mastodon.social avatar

@bigzaphod @Eggfreckles legalzoom.com wants $149 (billed once) to file a BOI report.
I wonder if that's generally a service provided by the law firm that created the LLC?

Is there an appstoreconnect reason why things end up like this?

I don't know why the Apple Card, which 99% of customers probably set up with Apple Pay and never actually use the card, is made of titanium. And shipping the card back (with gas, labor, etc.) to save $0.50 of Titanium feels weird, too.

dxzdb, (edited )
@dxzdb@mastodon.social avatar

@danielpunkass Apple should make the card opt-out. It's like the worst rewards deal anywhere to use the physical card.

At apple.com/feedback under the ApplePay option there is a AppleCard selection. I just put in a feature request to make the card optional.

Anyone else see their Pedometer++ widget disappear recently from their Watch. It's off in the iPhone app - but I didn't do that. I turn it back on (Progress & Steps) and it came back but a day later it disappeared again.

@Sketch I see from my records that I first bought Sketch in Mar2015 through the Mac App Store. I believe that worked all the way until macOS High Sierra when I upgraded in 2019 - I thought macOS wouldn’t allow me to continue - but looking back maybe it was the nice discount that got me to upgrade.

Currently, version 88.1 still serves me really well for my light design needs. Thanks so much for your flexible licensing and great software through the years!
