A few days ago, Telev78 very generously shared his new scan of the official "Monkey Island 2 Hint Book" with the community. I am a huge fan of the classic LucasArts adventure, so - of course - I was excited!

It was glorious, but I felt his original upload could benefit greatly from a little bit of digital restoration. With Telev78's permission, I used macOS and Pixelmator Pro to clean and repair all of the Hint Books's 72 pages.

Earlier tonight, I was surprised to learn that the 1990 EGA version of the original "Secret of Monkey Island" needs a separate Roland-Upgrade (DISK09.LEC) to support MT-32 music. A feature, that came as standard with the VGA version. Oh, well... this should only have been a quick Google search, but unfortunately, the LucasArts FTP server closed down years ago.

Luckily, after a few hours of research, I found out the Way-Back-Machine holds a complete index of all these updates and patches from 1999 and I eventually also discovered a complete FTP site grab from 2013! I'm so glad someone made the effort to preserve these files!

Checking out DOOM Ultimate for Windows 95.

Compared to the classic MS-DOS release, this gives you a much more modern look and feel. You got the options to run DOOM95.EXE through an early version of DirectX, but you can also still use the classic DOOM installation.

Dear German online shops,

please stop randomly sending these little Haribo bags out with orders. I know you mean well, but: The little gummy bears are mostly made from pig gelatin, which neither serious vegetarians/vegans nor peeps whose religious beliefs forbid eating pork want. That‘s a considerate part of the population!
I’m probably going to pack them all up and send them to Adrian Black (or maybe give them to somebody nearby who enjoys them).

I know, many people prefer those "ready to play" releases, where the retro game is already perfectly set up and configured. I guess it's convenient, but, personally, I really love to collect my games as original floppy disks.

There's simply nothing more precious than installing a beloved game from its original disks and looking at those oldschool setup programs! It sure beats unpacking some lousy, self-made archives containing pre-cracked files!

How cool is that?! A new, so far unknown version of Stunts (a.k.a. 4D Sports Driving) for MS-DOS was just uploaded to archive.org. These 5.25" disks are dated from December of 1990 and the binary files are actually quite different compared to the later version.

🌟🕹️ Nintendo's Super Game Boy allows you to play Game Boy games on the SNES console. It essentially contains all the internals of the Game Boy along with support for additional color effects. A similar accessory was also released for the later GameCube, enabling you to play Game Boy Advance games as well.

Compared to the classic MS-DOS version, SimCity 2000 for Windows 3.1 did have a vastly superior resolution! At least, if you had a huge, badass monitor back in 1994/95!

Still one of my fav file managers from the MS-DOS 6 era... the "MS-DOS-Shell". Back in the day, this was actually pretty hard to find, as it was only included on the MS-DOS 6.22 "supplemental disk".
