Is it common in your country to take leftovers home from a restaurant? Feel free to mention where you live.

I ask because yesterday my girlfriend and I went to a restaurant with a menu that had 10 servings. There was no way we could finish it all, so my girlfriend asked for boxes to take some of it home. I think she is really cool for doing that because it's not very common in Denmark, and I'm too shy to do it myself. This made me wonder how normal it is to do so around the world.

@simonbs it’s almost expected here in the states, especially Appalachian/Southern states. I’ve been to a ton of places that bring you a box for leftovers even if you don’t ask.

AMP has always been a double-edged sword. These pages were undeniably fast and for a long time, enabling AMP on a site was like a faucet you could turn on and just rake in traffic. But AMP was always an absolute abomination of a standard and horrible for the internet at large. One of my favorite things about using GitHub Copilot is using it for CSS on things that clearly have background images. You’ll have something like .background_with_star and it will suggest a background-image PNG of a star from an obscure leadership seminar in a small town in Wales. #webdev

I’m truly so excited to re-elect Joe Biden. Working for him in 2019 and 2020 was the proudest moment of my career. He’s been the right president for the right moment, and he’s surrounded himself with the best and the brightest. I could share anecdotes about how he’s a genuine and kind person, or riff about how he could be living it up in a comfy retirement. But he’s waking up every morning and doing the hardest job in the world with an energy far beyond people 50 years younger. I’m on #TeamJoe

90% of my interactions on Instagram these days are blocking and restricting the various under-clothed spam accounts following me and commenting on my posts.

And when I just reported an account for impersonation, I only got a “nah, we don’t have time to look at this” reply.

Did all the Twitter spammers jump ship?

I think #Mastodon has an enormous head start both in terms of features and community but it’s hard to deny that #BlueSky has done something better to attract larger profiles than we have here. BlueSky isn’t even publicly available and I’m already seeing more major/minor celebrities and public figures posting over there. Given the features that it’s lacking right now, you have to wonder if the lack of server choice (for now) really does simplify onboarding that much.

All of these Web 2.0 apps like Twitter and Reddit radically altering (or outright destroying) their third party app ecosystems feels like the real bookend to the 2011 era internet. Remember when it was weird if a new service didn’t have a free, public API? It was like launching without a logo or with a website hosted on an IP address with no domain.

If you were going to hand someone a single resource to get a basic, workable knowledge of #MachineLearning, neural networks, deep learning, #AI, etc. what would it be? Not looking to prime someone for a doctoral class but enough for the person to be able to talk about the concepts and play with some pre-built libraries and tools. Could be a book, a class, a video, anything.

I'm usually hesitant to share too much about my son, Ripley, or his situation but our situation (US, WV/OH) changed last week. Ripley is about 18 months old and we've known since he was born that he would need a #KidneyTransplant once he was big enough. Until last week, our plan was for him to get one of mine.
