I live in the US. I'll be visiting the UK this summer. What do I need to know/do, technologically-speaking?

I know the plugs are different. Phone service? WiFi standards? Uh...keyboard layouts should be OK.

What have I not even thought to ask?

You know that thing where you find old #code of your own and marvel at how stupid you used to be?

I just had the opposite. "Wow, this is a good idea. Hey, that was my idea!"

What a warm and fuzzy feeling! I've grown as a #programming professional!

Except wait. This means my peak is behind me. I'm on the down slope. These are my declining years!

The best way I've found to design software is to get it totally wrong on the first try. Once you've seen why the obvious approach won't work, and how ugly your naive workaround is, you sleep on it and a better solution will present itself in the morning. Just make sure you do this in small chunks, or the epic rewrite will take you forever.

Actually, this is the only effective way I've found to design software. :blobcat_mlem:

#Taskmaster Series 10 is a complete horror show. I understand why and if I'd watched it in 2020 it would have resonated and been a great comfort. But...it's still a horror show.

#KatherineParkinson in particular was just...wow. Descent into madness. There's a lot of raw emotion on the screen in the studio portions especially.

Less light entertainment and more group therapy. It's an interesting season to watch to understand the psychology of the show, but don't start there.

Like lets say I love card games and don't want to filter "card" out. But one particular person I follow talks about their business card collection too much. How can I filter "'card' but only in posts from @businesscardfan"?

@FeralRobots @HistoPol @futurebird The audiobook of Scanner is also one of the best audiobooks I've ever heard. Paul Giamatti reads it, although "acts it" is probably a better way to describe it.

@recursive Sounds like a dirty joke, but the best nachos I've had were in the dark. Movie dinner theater place serves them with the works (I assume from the taste). "Super" and "double meat" made think of it. Don't forget sour cream.

Haven't been there in ages, obvs.

This is hilarious. A #Google engineer invented #zx to make command line scripting easier with #NodeJS, because at a certain point #shell scripts get too complicated and you need a Real #Programming Language.

@mjgardner @swaggboi @aziz You never do the whole thing again, but you might use ideas from that larger process later.

I recently realized that a utility class I had was isomorphic to a runtime environment and that the feature I was adding was essentially scope masking. That made it easy to think about and create.
