Due to losing control of our Matrix channel, we are officially moving over to Discord for now.

It's a shame, but we can't properly moderate our Matrix, so we can no longer recommend it.

@nigel your statement is lazy. Dude has a million projects and is one of the hardest working people on fedi. So tf what if he wants to use something that is easier, more user friendly and more reliable. Go somewhere else with your unhelpful and lazy ass takes.

We're really excited to share this sneak peek that showcases the new onboarding flow and discovery features (Connect Mastodon) and look forward to the upcoming beta release!

@GhostOnTheHalfShell this is wrong. You’re trying to make it sound nice as it’s what you agree with. User data & identity are tethered to an instance. Per instance can very much vary as far as functionality so that statement is a fallacy, please do not make things up to fit your narrative.

Dear @Gargron,

A fediverse server called Threads is violating mastodon.social’s second server rule:

“2. No racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia…
Transphobic behavior such as intentional misgendering and deadnaming is strictly prohibited.”

https://glaad.org/smsi/report-meta-fails-to-moderate-extreme-anti-trans-hate-across-facebook-instagram-and-threads/

Can you please defederate from this server to protect the trans people on mastodon.social?

Thank you.

PS. It’s run by these guys: https://techcrunch.com/2024/03/26/facebook-secret-project-snooped-snapchat-user-traffic/

darth_akeda,
@darth_akeda@mastodon.social avatar

@aral @wjmaggos @Gargron You mean vulnerable groups that don’t include Black and Brown people. There’s plenty of evidence regarding how they’ve been treated especially during the great Twitter migration, by many of the same people and instances worried about Threads, yet those instances weren’t defederated. I’m all for protecting people but clearly you guys are only about protecting white people. Didn’t see this outrage when Black people expressed their treatment

darth_akeda,
@darth_akeda@mastodon.social avatar

@aral @wjmaggos @Gargron They’ve been safer and more welcomed on Bluesky and Threads than they’ve been on Mastodon, yet those places are supposedly so terrible and this place so safe. My ass it is

What is the best web browser if it comes to ?

Chrome is out of the question, I’m leaning towards Brave or Firefox. For MacOS, iOS & Linux 😇

darth_akeda,
@darth_akeda@mastodon.social avatar

@stux I use DDG browser (beta), Arc with Adguard & ClearVPN, and I use Orion for both MacOS and iOS. It’s fast and secure, but it’s young in its development.

Two points that all the articles about , and comparisons with the keep missing:

  1. The Fediverse has no ads. It doesn't steal your data. How is this not a massive, central point? Instagram is almost unusable these days because of advertocalypse

  2. Don't like Mastodon's features like its decision not to have quote boosts and free text search? You can still use Mastodon through Calckey, which has these features

darth_akeda,
@darth_akeda@mastodon.social avatar

@greenback BlueSky doesn’t have ads

darth_akeda,

@greenback It’s a B corp. There’s still guidelines they must adhere to be considered that

Regardless of your feelings about #Threads, Jack Dorsey complaing about #Twitter competitors as Twitter clones, when he is behind #Bluesky, is hilarious.

darth_akeda,
@darth_akeda@mastodon.social avatar

@paul Not hilarious at all. The idea from the beginning was Twitter to be on AT protocol. BlueSky the client was meant as a proof of concept to convince Musk to decentralise Twitter. Bluesky doesn’t recognise itself as a competitor nor Twitter replacement

If you move your main communications from Twitter to Facebook/Threads and then say you're glad to freeing yourself from a sociopathic billionaire's whims, you are truly missing the point.

darth_akeda,
@darth_akeda@mastodon.social avatar

@dangillmor To be fair they shouldn’t be putting their communications in the hands of anyone. If Nostr protocol and clients weren’t associated with crypto I think the general public would use it. That is the most social freedom online

darth_akeda,
@darth_akeda@mastodon.social avatar

@maegul why are you worried that you’re too interested in it?

darth_akeda,
@darth_akeda@mastodon.social avatar

@maegul Yeah, I’m just worried about the reputation. The technology behind it is impressive. It presents people with actual freedom. Not even the Fediverse offers that kind of freedom

    I know, I know, I'm the devil incarnate but I actually think could be a good thing for the .

    I'm not saying we should all switch to it, I prefer the feel of and the indie fediverse in general, but for onboarding new folks I think it has potential.

    My biggest concern is how we prevent the sort of against others that seems so common on some mainstream social networks.

    Feel free to correct my incredible stupidity. 🤔

    darth_akeda,
    @darth_akeda@mastodon.social avatar

    @davidshq I know you said it in jest but you are not. This place is actually worse than big social when it comes to differing opinions, BlueSky operates very similarly in that way

    darth_akeda,
    @darth_akeda@mastodon.social avatar

    @davidshq To answer your question. What has to happen, others and myself have been debating this for months is that the Fediverse needs to split. Someone coined the term Introverse. For those that are the conservatives of the Fediverse versus the more liberals that want things to be user centric, innovative and more activity

    darth_akeda,
    @darth_akeda@mastodon.social avatar

    @sarajw @davidshq I know we all talk about Meta’s terrible moderation but if we are honest there’s also terrible moderation here. There’s things Meta absolutely gets right in terms of moderation

    darth_akeda,
    @darth_akeda@mastodon.social avatar

    @davidshq @sarajw FB isn’t a good fit primarily two reasons 1) type of user 2) it is already a Macro/microblogging platform. Instagram has a younger pool to choose from & content creators are more active on IG

    darth_akeda,
    @darth_akeda@mastodon.social avatar

    @davidshq @sarajw Yes, there’s also tying people to their physical world identities which is problematic.
    MS staying largely out of the consumer market has also helped

    darth_akeda,
    @darth_akeda@mastodon.social avatar

    @davidshq I don’t believe so. For several reasons the world due to social media has become either or. The middle ground has largely disappeared and is viewed as indifference. It would be viewed as playing both sides.

    So I use this mastodon account

    @darth_akeda@mastodon.social avatar

    @maegul I don’t blame you. I’m not going to quit yet. I may just migrate to a different Calckey instance.
    Scaling is hard it requires management but also planning ahead.

    darth_akeda,
    @darth_akeda@mastodon.social avatar

    @maegul This is true I wasn’t thinking how it was only two or three days ago they hit 13k. For some reason in my mind the number was much higher. I do they get it sorted as I’m a big believer and believe in the big impact they can have on the Fediverse at large.
