I buy from #Amazon as little as possible these days. But I've noticed lately, when I do, that when I get the message telling my package is out for delivery, that means it'll arrive tomorrow. Anyone else?
Every year we take a quantity of sugar and chocolate that would have made any monarch the talk of Europe 200 years ago... and we shove it in a sock and hang it from a hook.
Bob's Birders wasn't spared from the first #atmosphericRiver currently pointed at #Eugene, but a little elbow grease and it's good for Teddy, Kathleen, and Mort, our 3 #squirrel regulars.
I'm excited to announce that, after a months of design (and weeks of delaying the write-up), my latest #3dprinting model, "Bob's Birders," is now available! Inspired by #BobsBurgers, this colorful #squirrel and #bird feeder is sure to liven up your #backyard . It certainly has livened up ours.
ONA is conducting a letter writing campaign to draw attention to the hospital closure.
Folks of #Eugene and @eugene: Our only hospital on this side of the river is closing. The ER's last day is set to be Dec. 1. The Oregon Nurses Association has started this letter writing campaign to hopefully draw the attention of the OHA and Governor.
We in America, Oregon, Lane County, and Eugene, do not live in a world where health care, housing, the economy, or near damn near anything critical to human life and well-being is funded by or run by any government at all. So complaining to the government, petitioning them, or blaming them, is pretty much useless and pointless.
The power of the world we live in today is held almost completely by corporations, business, and finance. Since Reagan in the 1980s, most of the things government used to do has been aggressively privatized. Businesses love to blame government, but corporations hold most or all the cards.
Tax revenues have been eroded so that the ability for government to be a positive force to do anything is near zero. Best they can hope to do is regulate… and often without funds to enforce the regulations.
So if you want to complain, then complain to the corporation that owns Peace Health. Not that it will make any difference, but at least you’d be pressuring the people who actually have the power to make the decisions.
@bamfic I would argue instead that it really doesn't matter what people do. The decision to close the hospital has already been made and probably won't be reversed. Starting from the assumption that no action will do anything for this, why should it matter what people do regarding this, as long as it's not hurting anyone?
The Lemmy server I belong to also hosts just about every other #fediverse service too. And I've been thinking about giving #firefish a try because the feature set looks nice.
People who have moved from one #mastodon server to another (or Mastdon to Firefish/Calckey): are there any pain points to look out for?
@bishma you will not be able to return to your account on Firefish if you decide to move from it, they may fix this in the future but currently you can return if you leave once there.
