Fellow #WordPress developers building websites, I beg you. Please learn about must-use plugins, and every time you think about adding a special hook to your functions.php file, think for a moment – is what you’re adding going likely going to want to continue to be used when you change themes? If so, put it in your must-use plugin instead of the theme. You’ll save yourself so many headaches when you change the theme in the future.

So, I built Siren's documentation portal, and the entire site is built using WordPress and the full-site editor. It's my first complete build using FSE, so I wrote up a reflection on it.

My favorite feature of the new iOS is that you can set the wallpaper to change every time your screen turns on. I set it to "Nature" and every time my phone comes on I get to see one of the many amazing vistas I've taken a photo of over the years in our travels. It's so nice to just get a constant trickle of personal photos like that.

Also, I love that the clock clips behind the vista sometimes.

I started working on an initial Proof of concept for the WordPress Fields API last night before COVID really started to set in. I’ve kind of already solved this problem in the past with Underpin, so I’m drawing inspiration from that effort. First draft is functional, supports JSON, and is set up to support different control types.

After giving it several articles written about my site, it suddenly became capable of providing me ideas to improve my site based on the information I previously fed it. I'm still getting used to using a full site theme for WordPress. But WOW today was a win. I'm working on setting up the documentation portal for Siren, and literally just created a custom post type, and that was the extend of the code. I'm able to build all of the template layouts for the post type in the FSE context.

This is REALLY cool!

I’m using OBS, and @kdenlive to record all of my documentation tutorials for Siren. It’s been my setup for a while now. I use @inkscape and @GIMP for art assets and and SVG tweaks. I actually think the only that this is not FOSS that I used to build Siren is PHPStorm 😅

As a person who lives in a camper, the Vision Pro seems compelling. I could watch a movie without the bright light bugging my family. I could work with nothing but a small keyboard sitting on my table.

The big compelling thing I see isn't all of the fancy AR stuff, it's the fact that I can have a screen as big as I want in my tiny 190 sq ft home.

I want a good, yet inexpensive laptop. I’m not going to be doing much in the way of programming in this and most of the work will be web based. Should be small, and portable, with good battery life, and a decent screen. Mostly going to use it as my millennial “this is a computer email” tasks 😅
