Hey folks! I'm looking for examples of elected officials and people running for office who have accounts on the fediverse.

Know of one? Please let me know! Boosts appreciated :boost_requested:

@ainali@social.coop avatar

@stefan @josh this is a tiny bit simpler, but gives the same result.

https://w.wiki/AEJa

(You can just ask for the value, rather than filter for it.)

ainali,
@ainali@social.coop avatar

@stefan @josh I assume you are not talking about the term "label" as in Wikidata, but really you try to filter for people with the property occupation = politician. That is what both your and mine query does, but in different ways. (One does not need to use FILTER in order to do that, as you can see in my query.)

I've been really enjoying working with Wikidata lately, setting up automated accounts like @libraries, @parks, and @lighthouses.

To see what else you can do with Wikidata, and to learn how to use it, check out a tutorial I put together: https://stefanbohacek.com/blog/making-a-map-of-unesco-world-heritage-sites/

@HistoPol @stefan @libraries @parks @lighthouses
Not for individual politicians or parties, but @govdirectory is aiming to get all public organizations (like government agencies and authorities) in the world and their contact data in one place, through Wikidata.

@evan is this a prediction statement or a statement of hope?

ainali,
@ainali@social.coop avatar

@evan Thanks for specifying! To explain my thought process, to me, any statement about the future is open-ended unless specified (unless talking about something unavoidable). "I predict.." seems as likely as "I hope.." in such cases to me. In social media specifically, I also find that people more often talk about what they want to happen than what they think is likely to happen.

We Should All Be Vegans

This essay was an assignment I wrote last year at the course English: Writing Texts about Facts and Opinions. Veganism is the philosophy of not exploiting animals in any way. It entails excluding all animal products and by-products from the consumption and all parts of the production. Or, put another way, a product is vegan if no animals were exploited during its production.

The people that vote for the Oscars, don't look like the people that watch the films. The Academy is much older, whiter, and dude-ier*. Oscar winners, are the inevitable outcome of Oscar voters.

The question isn't "Has the Academy changed enough to where filmmakers from marginalized backgrounds have the same chance to win an Oscar yet?"

The question is "Will the Oscars have the same relevance to society 10 years from now, that they do today?"

(*In 2022, 81% white, 67% men.)

@mekkaokereke is that only true for Americans, or people in general? (what was the methodology of this study?)

I recently came across a beautiful open source one-page website template and, unfortunately, I also got a reason to do a makeover on my CV.

🎉 https://aina.li/cv

It was fun to reminisce and fill it. As it is a generic CV, many different things are in there. I still have plans to expand it, but I think it is ripe for feedback now. Feedback is welcome here or through the link in the footer of the site, where you also find a link to the template.

Also, why aren't Wikis #Fediverse-enabled by default? I'd really like to follow certain articles on #Wikipedia, for example.

If you must, it could be following something like @Fediverse but interpreting the actual URL to the article like https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fediverse as the actor's primary identifier would be so much better. Well, either would be better than not being able to follow at all...

ainali,

@J12t as a fallback, you can already follow articles through Atom feed. https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Fediverse&feed=atom&action=history

The #FOSDEM panels on the #CRA and #PLD underlined the divide between policy-makers and #OpenSource devs.

To bridge that divide, I think policy-makers have to work to make the #EU more accessible, which is why I decided to launch https://unfsckthe.eu/, a collaborative knowledge-base that will provide documentation for the EU, and help make it easier for the open source community to get their voices heard in #Brussels

You can also contribute on Github!

European free/open source folks: is there a wiki or something that lists sources of small grants for open source work? I am thinking stuff like the NLnet NGI0 or RIPE NCC Community Project Fund grant programs, things that an individual human living in the EU can apply for.

(If there isn’t such a resource, tell me your fave grant programs and I will start one!)
