It just clicked in my brain. What I haven't been able to articulate about why I'm so anxious about Recall. I'm sure others have already gotten to where I am.

It's worse than "a system that tracks everything you do" and stores that info in a basic database that could be easily compromised.
It's worse than a nanny surveillance tool for companies to spy on their employees.

It's inescapable.

It doesn't matter if I make a dozen "how to disable recall" tutorials. The second YOUR data shows up on someone ELSE'S screen, it's in THEIR recall database.

It won't matter if you're a master expert specialist. You can't account for EVERY other computer you've ever interacted with. If a family member looks up an old email with your personal data in it, your data is now at risk.

If THEIR system is compromised YOUR data is at risk.

I just went from "vague feeling of unease" to "actively writing templates to canvas elected officials, regulators, and attorneys general."

I'm willing to eschew OneDrive completely if there's a good alternative that has Linux/Mac/Win support does not rely on CLI to do anything and is competitively priced.

(Again, anything where I would need to use a terminal/console is not an option)

RE: My last boost

I just assume any PMs on fedi, Tumblr, LinkedIn (yes, I know), discord, and most other social media are either bots or scammers.

The Internet days where you could say hi directly to a stranger and get a meaningful long term conversation are long long gone and... with vulture "AI" wanting even your private words... Those Internet days will never come back.

@Tearcell @robbodev it also took me a while, to gel with Godot and composition and signals .. and I despised GDScript at first glance (my lord, what a fool I was!) and now I wish I could use it for more stuff.

Welp, I suppose I needn't worry about SEO for aetheric-games.com .... Google just simply won't search for it. Searching for "aetheric games" returns results for "aesthetic games" no matter if you use the "search instead..." link, if you use quote marks, or even if you use "verbatim" mode. 🙄

When people argue about the best 2D Mario it's usually a close call between Super Mario 3 (SM3) and Super Mario World (SMW), with SMW typically winning. At least to my experience.

And, look, I get it. SMW is amazing and there's no point to argue about why something should NOT be your favorite thing.

But for me it'll always be SM3. The amount of variety in the levels, with each world having a distinct theme is something that SMW doesn't come close. Same goes for powerups.

Been using a, client-supplied, Windows 11 laptop for work.

Windows 11 is utter shit trash garbage. I literally cannot understand how anyone at MS use their own OS and say, "Yeah, this is better than what we had before.'

Add that Win11 will have inescapable AI and Ads... And when Windows 10 gets sundowned next year I think it will finally be time for me to go back to Linux.

Been a small fan of Adrian's Digital basement for years, but had never seen him repair a console.

But what surprised me was that the Sega Master System actually recognizes all six(!) buttons from a Genesis/MegaDrive type controller.

Would anyone please explain to an idiot what addons are & what plugins are in the context of , please? My guess is they're something that would not ordinarily be 'part' of the base Godot. I presume they would be copied (cloned?) from some weird place like Git into the specific one-off project folder (though I'd rather they always load whenever running Godot since they seem essential for my work?) ? Thanks 🙂

@media_dept Yes, you are right.

But let me expand although IANAE...

Since game engines (generally) can be used to make any type of game. Game specific (like adventure game dialog systems) or feature specific (like a procedural music system) might not be a good fit for all games you can create (why waste CPU cycles on music if youre making a silent game)

So it makes sense to package these stuff as plugins and include them in your projects as needed.

@Gustodon I wouldn't buy a DreamCast 2. I prefer Sega's games being platform agnostic.

What I want tho, is an Eternal Champions 2: Everlasting Eternal

Edit: EC2:EE should feature Chakan The Forever Man, Annette from El Viento (with Ernst Evans assist), Nigel from Landstalkers, the sailors from Shenmue, Turrican, etc etc

I'm a fan of the song Radiohead's Creep, but many cover singers get it wrong. It's easy to sing it pretty, but it's a song of self-loathing. Finding the right balance is tough. This is my favorite version, by Broadway star/singer/songwriter Carrie Manolakos.
