Here comes #Fractal 7, with extended #encryption support and improved accessibility. Server-side key backup and account recovery have been added, bringing greater security. Third-party verification has received some bug fixes and improvements. Amongst the many accessibility improvements, navigability has increased, especially in the room history. But that’s not all we’ve been up to in the past three months. Read the full release notes at https://flathub.org/apps/org.gnome.Fractal
It always feels weird when a command or URL contains three times the same word, even though it is correct and meaningful.
E.g. git clone gnome:GNOME/gnome-builder or its matching address https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-builder
@afranke I was always happy with our approach at elementary: drop “elementary” from the name since it’s implied, and use generic names as much as possible. Especially in an RDNN world, it makes so much sense.
Files
github.com/elementary/files
io.elementary.files
Can still call it “elementary Files” to disambiguate!
Unfortunately I foresee a lot of pushback from packagers and distros if GNOME wanted to go that route.
I started using a new rule in my FLOSS projects. Any “when” question about features will now get one of two possible answers: probably within the next 10 years, or probably not within the next 10 years.
@boud I am so glad Debian is facing such difficulties packaging it. You have no idea. Now, since our intention was clearly stated at the beginning, you failed to understand it and kept debating this, as far as I’m concerned, this was the last message I will see from you. Good day, sir.
I didn't debate the developers' intentions: what was debated was how that relates to software sustainability and the wider FOSS ecosystem. Useful results from this thread seem to be that the developers' choice is clear; links to debate about flatpak are available; and we know that packaging for the wider ecosystem is ongoing by at least one person.
