@briannawu Didn't the CEO for the company that handles Chat GTP say that they would block the "AI" working in Europe if the EU put their regulations in place just a few days ago?

OOOoh right, that was because they would be responsible for every copyrighted material the AI was trained on in case of a lawsuit. And we all know rich people hate being responsible.

Still rewatching #Friends

I feel more and more convinced that the two major love stories are written by two set of writers who never talk to each other or even sit in the same building.

The Ross and Rachel "romance" is getting creepier by the season. Ross is mentally unwell enough to refuse Rachel a divorce after they drunk-married in Vegas.

Monica and Chandler's Romance is thoughtfully written, they obviously care for each other and are really cute together.

@Uraael To be fair, the Ross / Rachel one is written like 90% of popular romances in Sitcoms after say 1985.

Heck even Dramadies have almost only horrible romances. I tried to rewatch Gilmore Girls a year or so back and literally every single major character and about half of the minor characters are downright horrible people.

I am more and more feeling like I caught a liferaft just in time, shifting back to Chrome on both the computer and my Android from Edge.

Microsoft is going in 300% on Bing "AI". It seems to be the only thing they are working on, period, and I want nothing to do with any "AI".

Chromium has no auto update nor does Google let it use the extension API anymore.

Firefox... Yeah I have tried to like it for so long but I really can't.

DuckDuckGo does not have a desktop browser? At least not according to their homepage. Besides their Android browser does not fulfill my demands for usability anyway. Not as an every day browser.

@rebeccafinn Thanks! Definitely looks way too unfinished (plus it apparently uses Windows web engine that MS themselves decided not to use anymore). Plus of course a total lack of extensions. We'll see where it is at about version 1.5 or so (apparently version 0.41 atm).

    Over the course of my 7 years here on the fediverse, I’ve seen a lot of misinformation and misunderstandings about privacy, consent, and the onslaught of innovative new search and analytics tools. There’s a new one making the rounds and I wrote something up in response to a discussion on the topic.

    Let me first say that yes, I think people should have the ability to consent to how their data is used. The reality is that doesn’t comport with, well, reality. We in the fediverse live behind a thin veneer of privacy, often relying on people doing unscrupulous things with fedi-data to be shamed into shutting down their service. But the reality is that doesn’t really protect our data. Not really. The fedivsere is an open ecosystem. It provides tools and abilities to better protect your information, tools and abilities that don’t make sense for other social media platforms to have because it hinders their ability to make money. But while those tools are available, they are not the default here.

    This is something I just wrote for those that are concerned about their information being indexed, or analyzed, or otherwise used by one of the new analytics services. It’s Mastodon-centric and a few of the features are only available in the glitch-soc fork:

    Enable “require follow requests”
    Enable “hide your social graph”
    Enable “opt out of search engine indexing”
    Enable “hide your followers count”
    Block and then unblock anyone that follows you whom you do not trust to not use a service like this so that they are no longer following you
    Remove anything from your profile that you aren’t comfortable being collected and analyzed. For things you would like followers to see, create a followers only post with that info any pin it to the top of your timeline.
    Going forward, ensure post visibility is set to “followers only” any time you post something that you don’t want to be analyzed

    Good advice for a lot of people. The alternative of course is to not give out more information than what you are willing to share with the world anyway. The saying "Everything on the Internet is Forever" is something more people should remember before creating accounts in the first place.

    Please don't take this as if I do any kind of "victim blaming", I am just saying that I have always been anonymous on the Internet since I got my first 28800 modem and I will continue to be so.

    Listening to some feedback about the art style made me re-evaluate some of the types of detail I'm putting into the sprites. I always wanted to go for a "cel-shading in pixels" look, but got diverted with edge shading and other stuff. Took out a lot of highlights and other stuff from Ren, and she fits much better into the universe now. There's still big chunks of shading, but no more twiddly little detail where it doesn't really add anything. And it all fits!
