#MeetTheArtist Day5. Wax & Clay - soft modelling. Wax was the first medium I used professionally, modelling medical prosthetics. I now more often use a soft filled wax, that softens in the hand but is quite firm at room temp. This little #wren, part of a 6โ€ sq. low relief was modelled in 2020. Due to its impermanence any wax model has to be then moulded (in this case in silicon rubber) & then cast into the final permanent medium (in this case a resin bronze).

#MeetTheArtist Day2. Stone - possibly my favourite medium to work in for it's permanence but also it's unforgiving nature which necessitates intense concentration when carving. This restoration of a WW1 memorial was a real challenge, the marble statue had to be transported to my studio where I carved a new head, rifle & bayonet handle in Carrara Marble to match the original figure which was carved in Italy. I feel v.strongly about remembering those who died in both World Wars. #LestWeForget

March is #MeetTheArtist month, so here I am in my studio with an almost finished "Organophone". I am, it has to be said, looking a tad older than I actually am & definitely a lot older than I actually feel! This week I'll try & post a selection of my work that should explain what goes on inside my head but if you get the chance please pop into The Harley Gallery, Welbeck, UK & take a peek at the "Work Life: Life's Work" exhibition where you can see the musical creation pictured in the flesh!

Did you know that in a small village in #India, people have been #worshipping #stone balls?

Large, round balls are thought to #protect land & cattle in Padlya village near Khandwa district in Madhya Pradesh. The balls are named "Kakar Bhairav", the first meaning 'farm' & the second 'ruler'. There are about 256 of them.

Recently, #scientists discovered that the #sacred balls are really fossilised eggs belonging to a #dinosaur species of Titanosaurus.

@GuidoKuehn Totally agree and great artwork... but I have to show you the translation - as we all need a smile at the moment! ;)

@anamckellar@mas.to avatar

Over 18,000 tonnes of pumpkins are grown and wasted every year because of the gross commercialisation of halloween. Along with the mountain of single-use plastic trash it generates. What a colossal waste of resources, including the land and fossil fuels to grow and transport the pumpkins. Plus the wildlife that dies from the toxic waste which people dump. It wouldnโ€™t be so bad if people at least used the flesh and seeds.

@g1comics @askfedi Should be fine for adhesion but you may struggle to get it apart again - the less silicone you use, they stronger the join!

Been cutting up 6" RSJs or i-Beams as folk seem to call them these days. Seriously hard work, even with a 9" angle grinder! ๐Ÿ˜ณ All ready for #welding though and these offcuts will make handy little anvils! ๐Ÿ˜Š #metalwork #fabrication
