Some fun facts about this guy:

  • Started his Fediverse adventure on Lemmy. First on lemmy.ml but now on Beehaw.
  • Regards the Fediverse a good "space" in which to try out micro-blogging again, after having left Twitter years ago (way before current affairs).
  • Interested in: #computers, #FLOSS, #Linux, #science, #reading, listening to #music, drinking a bit too much #coffee.
  • Lives in the Netherlands.
  • Born in the mid-80s.
  • #Bicycle #commuter.
  • #Flexitarian
  • He/him.
  • Has selected "Nederlands" as language, but English and (to a lesser extent) German are fine.

My current banner is a cropped version of a wallpaper I found on Reddit years ago. Unfortunately I no longer have any idea to whom I should attribute it.

Profile picture:
Selfie of me sitting at a window with a light grey curtain, partially blocking the incoming daylight to prevent overexposure to the photograph. I am wearing my glasses and have my head slightly tilted while I am smiling with my front teeth bared.

Banner image:
A manipulated photograph of a magpie with the head of an orca that has opened its mouth fairly wide. Its wings are still folded alongside the body in a way actual birds would do when they sit on e.g. a fence post or branch.

The just got spicier 🌶

now has 135,369 accounts. That is tracking with my expectations.

But while had ~7,000 accounts yesterday, it’s just shot up to 30,930 accounts today.

While Lemmy is the 5th most used server software on the Fediverse, Kbin is now in 10th place and it’s growing at a faster rate than Lemmy.

A few days ago, I predicted that the would result in 150,000-300,000 new accounts being created on the Fediverse. That expectation has already been met.

This is fundamentally changing the course of the Fediverse. It’s moved the Fediverse from being primarily about microblogging to having more eclectic use cases.

While the validated that decentralized social media can appeal to millions of people, the has validated that decentralized social media has man varied applications – both in the software and use case sense.

@atomicpoet The official stance of Beehaw in a nutshell is also kind of "tools later". You can find more official posts on this on beehaw.org/c/support

Answering a bit more in general rather than answering each of your questions individually, I generally "discover" artists on Youtube after which I check whether they have presence on (primarily) Spotify. Most of them I either discovered because they were somehow connected to those I already listened to or through the looking for cover versions of songs I know. The Eurovision Song Contest also might lead to me looking up artists, if their "regular" content (not for the contest) is any good.

Artists to check are including, but not limited to, Patty Gurdy, Alina Lesnik, Alina Gingertail, Luxid, Clamavi de Profundis, ALIKA, Voyager, Scardust.

I don't think I'm smart enough to understand perfume ads.

Each one is like ?????????? Perfume

Peter1986C,

@MariaTheMartian Perfume ads are kind of weird because it is hard to sell a smell, unless the prospective buyer is sniffing at it in-store.

Good morning Calckey!! 😃 :calckey: :fediverse:

Peter1986C,

@driusan @noelle Good evening!

Hehe, I love time zones 😆

It seems like some people come to Calckey and immediately begin whining and complaining and I'm totally okay with muting that noise.

I'm not talking about asking questions about the features. There's a lot to learn about Calckey and myself and others are happy to answer questions when we can.

I'm talking about non-stop whining that it's not like another server and why can't it be a different way now, now now?

It feels like they came here to "explore" and just complain about it and not really engage about anything else.

Okay, rant over.

I love #Calckey.
Big Mama Bear vibes

Peter1986C,

@MariaTheMartian I came here to "explore" as well, but t.b.h. I almost immediately liked it here.

It's starting to get a little annoying how a lot of people on the fediverse don't use a content warning before launching into a triggering topic. Guess it's time for me to mute more words.

Peter1986C,

@rudiev @noelle I only want to state that if someone were to ask for a CW in one of my posts, I would probably oblige. I do not expect to actually post the heavier kind of stuff on here, but in case it is ever necessary to do so, it is okay to point it out to me that I may have to use a CW.

I love the percentages in the calendar widget, although it took me a while to realise what they depicted. Right now, 86.7% of today has passed for me. This month has only just started and this years' first quarter are past us.

Peter1986C,

Forgot to add a picture of it, for those who see this on a non-Calckey timeline.

DID EVERYONE NOTICE CALCKEY WENT UP TO 4000 CHARACTER LIMIT?
AWESOME!

:cat_boost:

Peter1986C,

@MariaTheMartian Ooh 4000 characters! I guess I had not noticed really, and at first I was a bit puzzled about what the number meant in your post. 😆

noelle, to random

Is it just me, or is Calckey acting a little strange? Seems super slow right now. 😬

Peter1986C,

@MariaTheMartian @noelle And it seems there have been created a lot of new instances recently. Some thirty new ones in this month (<0 in the "months" collumn) according to Fediverse Observer: https://calckey.fediverse.observer/list

Lack of discussion on beehaw (and lemmy)

First off, I want to say that I love what the people here are doing but I do have a problem. There is never any conversation about posts. There are tons and tons of links shared but most of the time they're just articles that someone found interesting. I never see any true, meaningful discussion the way I do on reddit. Does...

Peter1986C,

@metaltoilet Let's try replying to this from Calckey instead of from my account on #Beehaw. If that works, I might try to boost it to increase visibility (of Beehaw, or of #Lemmy in general) on Calckey. Maybe that will increase visitors to both. :fediverse:

Good night people of Calckey,
This message is a quick hello of mine before I go to bed.

It has been a while since I lastly micro-blogged, but I wish to try it again here on the Fediverse. My bio on Calckey is still a bit short, but I might expand it later.
