Omgpwnies,

At this point, it’s even more difficult than that. You can have an amazingly popular candidate that is a shoe-in for the POTUS vote… and they will be absolutely ineffective without the massive political machine that is the DNC/RNC backing them up. It’s not just the house and senate seats, it’s state government, municipal government, etc that also need representation by your new party. Tens of thousands of people need to be elected in positions in all levels before a new party gains enough political clout to even think about operating collectively at the national level.

Not to mention the fact that the judicial branch will still be packed with lifers with loyalties to the two incumbent parties.

Omgpwnies,

It’s great for cooking as well, you can just pour that 1/4 cup you need to deglaze a pan or whatever without again committing to finishing a bottle or having it go bad.

Omgpwnies,

With the current theory of how the moon was formed, it was in fact close enough to be touching the earth at one point… technically

New “Recall” feature in Windows 11 is a privacy nightmare (www.theverge.com)

The new “Recall” feature really does look good on paper, but the taking in mind that it catalogues almost everything you do on your computer, it could turn out to be a privacy nightmare. “logging things you do in apps, tracking communications in live meetings, remembering all websites you’ve visited for research, and...

Omgpwnies,

A EULA is a contract and is by default “negotiable”. The buyer has the option to attempt to engage with the seller and negotiate an agreement. However, the seller has equal right to decline said negotiation with the understanding that the product will not be sold to the buyer.

What would be far more productive is stricter regulation on what products can have a EULA attached, and what that agreement can contain (thus having the government pre-negotiate the contract on behalf of all the buyers collectively). These laws could also require a company engage a third party consumer advocacy group to negotiate the terms on behalf of the buyers as a collective, so as to keep that portion at an arm’s length from the government.

This would still not preclude an individual from trying to negotiate, but a seller still has the right to say “I don’t want to sell this to you.”

Omgpwnies,

The province that can’t come up with anything better than to dig stuff out of the ground and sell it is complaining that we’re bringing in too many educated people…

Omgpwnies,

For as long as Google is part of FAANG, they will have a nearly unlimited supply of fresh grads to burn through, and fresh grads still line up to work there to get that name on their CV.

Omgpwnies,

That would be an interesting idea… IPO and issuing new shares incurs a ‘tax’ where say 10% of those shares belong to the government, with the end result that all publicly traded companies are 10% government owned

Omgpwnies,

It sounds like you’re talking about Weller style irons and the ones where the part you hold plugs directly into the wall are quite terrible. However, they are an industry standard and most soldering stations will use a Weller tip. I have a knock off Hakko 936 that’s like 15 years old now and cost me $25 and it solders like a dream.

Omgpwnies,

and keep the taxes too

Omgpwnies,

This doesn’t fight gentrification, it is gentrification. The people who would be able to pay into this scheme aren’t the types who need to worry about their neighbourhood becoming so ‘improved’ that they can’t afford to live there anymore.

Omgpwnies,

Omgpwnies,

For me, it’s the fact that once my mortgage is paid off, I only have to worry about property taxes and utilities to keep a roof over my head. Worst case, it’s an asset that I can either leverage or sell if I really need to.

Omgpwnies,

I got in just before the housing market exploded in my area. As long as I don’t move, it’ll be paid off before I hit retirement age. Whether or not I can retire is another story, but with the house paid off, I might be able to get away with part time or consulting or something.

What's a common occurrence in your hobby that you think shouldn't be?

For me it’s driving while under the influence. If you couldn’t tell, I like me some ganja. However I have long since held the belief that it is utterly insane to drive while under the influence of most substances, with maybe nicotine and caffeine being the exception. All too often I see other stoners smoking and driving,...

Omgpwnies,

Also, their music sounds the way it does because the band got really drunk one night, spilled beer on the amp and it caught fire, and after that it had a really cool sound.

Omgpwnies,

Alternate take: Since this happened before he was president, it’s less likely to get quashed by scotus with the presidential immunity argument

Omgpwnies,

They kinda do, EU has a mutual defence policy as well

Omgpwnies,

But you’re still kinda right. Not voting is a vote for trump, and conservatives know this. Disenfranchisement via drug convictions is a key weapon in their arsenal.

Omgpwnies,

At least he went that route instead of other bigoted parents who actively drive their kids to self-harm/suicide and never learn this lesson.

Omgpwnies,

The three As of apologies So many people forget the last one, but IMO it’s the most important one. Yes, you should take responsibility and apologize, but without corrective action, it’s all just words.

Omgpwnies,

I was also raised catholic, and am now atheist mostly because the church itself can’t even seem to manage one of the three, let alone all of them. Even on a personal level, penance is just mouthing some prayers in an empty church, there’s no real requirement after confession to go make it right

Omgpwnies,

Ah yes, because everybody once they reach the age of 18 have their entire personality set in stone never to change again for the rest of their lives.

Maybe we should just drop him in a volcano because he admitted that at one point he was anti-LGBTQ? What then is the point in even trying to convince others to change their ways if we’re only going to ostracize them based on their previous worldview?
