Scott Manley has this wind turbine sticker in his studio, does anyone know anything about it?

@rasterweb Got to give another try at a matte surface build plate for FDM, and you?

veritasium using GAN images for thumbnails finally made me unsub. I was already growing kinda tired of the low-detail pop science stuff anyway.

@gsuberland I swear I thought you meant gallium nitride and I was...what?

There we are, PLA custom colors are a thing now. (using RAL codes)

About 60,5€ for a 750g spool or 95,5 for 2000g spool, wich is notably cheaper, and makes total sense.

It's expensive, but not THAT expensive given that you can get exactly the color you want.

I have been reminded again that not everyone knows about the difference between old tantalum capacitors and modern tantalum polymer capacitors.

the whole "tantalum capacitors catch fire" thing occurs due to oxygen production at internal fissure boundaries in the dielectric during breakdown when exposed to overvoltage. heat + oxygen = fire.

tantalum polymer dielectrics absorb oxygen at fissure boundaries instead of producing it, self-healing them against this effect. no fire.

@gsuberland my brain: "oh, I have heard that before...but where?...oh, IT WAS YOU"

@philpem (just edited my message with that, I had assumed it would be a different value for specific I2c pins (maybe higher).

Thanks!

Anyone knows the STM32F103(C8T6) I2C pin capacitance? I can't seem to find it on google.

(trying to do some calculations on the pullup resistors, given that I want it to have a variable number of extra modules (between 1 and 8 total)

Unless it's the same as a normal pin, in wich case it's 5pf.

Well...I'm kinda getting fed up with Fusion...today it won't save changes to a part, no matter what. I think the part is finished so it should not be a problem, but still...

So, I'm gonna try my hand at Freecad. As of first impression, I have no fucken idea on how to do anything. XD

Nixie,
@Nixie@nixie.name avatar

@smellsofbikes I am getting extremely frustrated right now, but then again, so I was when I started using Fusion 7 years ago, having no clue on 3D design...so I am going to try to trod forward and see if I can get to anything.

What's up, peeps? I've been so bad at keeping up with mastodon- what cool stuff have y'all been up to?

@stargirl Made a flexy, redesigned some boxes and made a starlamp:

So, now that I'm really close to start implementing the button box, I realized I'll need a considerable amount of 3v3 current, is there any recommendations of a switching module I can put in the design?

If it's avaliable in Farnell, the better, as I have to order the displays from there.

Nixie,
@Nixie@nixie.name avatar

HOLY FUCKING SHIT, 14€...

Somehow I had thought one that could do 5V-3V3 1A would have a reasonable price...but I can't seem to find anything.

Nixie,
@Nixie@nixie.name avatar

@azonenberg After seeing pricings and whatnot, I think I'm going to switch (heh) to this. At 2,5€ it's the cheapest thing I have seen so far (the one you suggested was very nice, but it was either on mouser or farnell from newark (18€ extra)

Nixie,
@Nixie@nixie.name avatar

@azonenberg This SMD version.

Nixie,
@Nixie@nixie.name avatar

@gsuberland @azonenberg I expct to use 500mA or so, but 0,85W is still a lot.

Nixie,
@Nixie@nixie.name avatar

@gsuberland @azonenberg Interesting option! I can't see the resistor table to regulate it, tho (I'm on phone)

Nixie,
@Nixie@nixie.name avatar

@gsuberland @azonenberg Alright, that particular option was EOL, but I found a familiar to it wich is "good for new designs", and made the resistor calculation, 3,327V should be good enough with a 432ohm resistor, 0,1% (they ask of 0,5% or better)

Nixie,
@Nixie@nixie.name avatar
Nixie,
@Nixie@nixie.name avatar

@gsuberland Possibly this?

Nixie,
@Nixie@nixie.name avatar

@gsuberland @azonenberg Yeah, I'm now seeing the prices while searching.

At that point, I may as well just spend more on a complete module then...(since I have moved the purchase date to next month to get more crap at once, it's okay to start searching again...I just didn't expect so much headache on this.

Nixie,
@Nixie@nixie.name avatar

@gsuberland @azonenberg There won't be a next time, Mr. Bond.

XDDD

Jokes apart, I understand what you mean and I agree, but this time, since I'm only making one, at most two, I would prefer to not have a project inside a project, and just focus on the main goal. Now spending 2 or 3 times as that one seems reasonable to skip headaches. XD

Nixie,
@Nixie@nixie.name avatar

@gsuberland @azonenberg Hm...I just had a thought. What if instead of trying to power everything from USB, wich is limited to 500mA, (and the displays can pull up to 135mA each, being there 9 of them max, if I want to keep the original idea)...can I just use an external power supply for a cheaper higher voltage DC-DC to 3V3, and just not connect VCC from the USB? (only data lines and ground) is that allowed?

FECK, CAT phones are no more.

My S62 Pro is still going strong, but now I am worried about the next, when the time comes.

Will am Ulefone Armor 11 5G be my only option?

Nixie,
@Nixie@nixie.name avatar

As of right now, this would be the substitute, the Ulefone 18T Ultra.

On paper it has good specs, but I wonder how good is at data safety, compared to the CAT.

Also, the screen is Gorilla Glass 5, instead of 6 like the S62, wich is an important point for me. There are screen protectors, but I would have preferred if it came pre-applied like the S62

The integrated Microscope is a really interesting feature, tho.
