Surely my posts should speak more than my bio, so I'll cut this pretty short for now... That being said, I'm interested in accessible gaming, the German language, and music composition and production.

@MonaApp The notification sounds are absolutely fantastic, but would you ever consider adding little sounds to in-app actions like favouriting, boosting, or refreshing? Just an idea.

Single key quicknav got really pointless in Sonoma, seems you can't leave it active anymore, because it takes over apps that shouldn't do anything with it. Most stupid.

Minionslayer,

@FreakyFwoof I agree that one of its problems is that it can turn on and affect every single app, but this is at least addressable by the user through an activity. Dumb? Yes. Intuitive? I'd say no, but I'm glad it's addressable at all and the options to do so are right there in VO Utility.

I'm really, really enjoying having essentially Be my AI on my PC or Mac, via the relevant NVDA or Hammerspoon addons. I don't mind paying for such a service, $10 goes a long way. Here's some text from the screenshot I snapped inside of MPC-HC, which is currently playing Channel 4 news.
Too long to fit in one post, so this is 1/2.

Minionslayer,

@FreakyFwoof Out of curiocity, where can I find the spoon you're talking about?

Minionslayer,

@miki @FreakyFwoof @rperez030 Ah thanks; much appreciated. Say, is there a repository for these spoons anywhere?

Minionslayer, to Mac

Is there any way to actually manually sync a ringtone from a #Mac to an #iphone with #VoiceOver? I'm trying to do it through #Finder, but the process seems to require dragging and dropping, with literally no keyboard equivalent! Of course, VoiceOver is just not dropping where I want it to. Is my only option to use #GarageBand on the #iOSDevice itself?

Minionslayer,

@evilcookies98 @Brynify But don't I wish that's how it worked though. I can at least dream...

Minionslayer,

@evilcookies98 @Brynify I'm curious now. What are those two apps?

Minionslayer, to macos

Is anyone else on #MacOS #Sonoma having a problem with #VoiceOver where nothing is announced when they arrow through a lot of text fields? Please don't say I'm the only one. I mean it's not even consistent; it'll work completely fine in web apps, but won't in others like Notes, Pages, or Mona. Shocking #a11y and #ScreenReader #Bug here from #Apple. Really quite disappointed with the Sonoma release. Glad that Apple are pausing feature updates to work on #Bugfixes.

Minionslayer,

@tmmahaff I changed my typing verbosity away from nothing, and lo and behold the bug is gone. Thanks for the #workaround, even if it’s for an issue thats quite frankly ridiculous and in a “stable” version of MacOS.

You know that family member who constantly calls you and gives you the least helpful explanation of a tech problem they possibly can? That's Apple, every single day.

Minionslayer,

@simon Agreed, but I think that’s just #BigTech alerts and warnings for you. Google is just as bad (if not worse). I'm passing Microsoft on this one slightly, but only because I've seen a button to show at least some troubleshooting data about a particular error.

So this is probably a really obvious thing in hindsight, but I only just realized the following. When you're in a list of search results in #Finder on #MacOS, you can press CMD+R to jump to the original location of the file. The cursor is even over the exact file you found in search, so you can directly see it in context. Just a really satisfying feature IMO!

Minionslayer,

@devinprater IKR, it’s so useful. Plus you can also use it on an alias to jump to the original location too. Dunno if it still works with symlinks though.

FreakyFwoof, to Discord

is there a quick 'reply to this message' key in ? I can applications key and find it that way but that feels longer than it should. Probably missing the obvious. Thanks.

Minionslayer,

@queenslight @simon @FreakyFwoof See I’m really not too much a fan of the VO approach. In fact you I’d say you can see Apple take a step more in the NVDA and JAWS direction, because on MacOS Sonoma Quick Nav has been separated into arrow and single key modes, allowing it to act more like Windows screen readers than ever.

Minionslayer,

@queenslight @simon @FreakyFwoof To be honest I never got into that either, but that's mostly because I’m carrying my MacBook around with me and I don’t have room for a separate keyboard with a numpad, and I actually never considered just geting an external one.
Personally I didn’t see why I’d want to move my hand to a different part of the keyboard just to send a more limited selection of commands. I mean fair enough if your work means you naturally use the numpad but I rarely did. Still, I guess it feels like less keys to worry about, and it's quite nice spacially to enter navigational commands on a pad.

@MonaApp Hi, so just trying out Mona on MacOS with VO and noticing that there’s some focus issues. E.G. if I try and arrow between posts, tabs, settings items (just about anything really) VO will take a second before focusing on the new item and reading it. This feels quite laggy to me. Additionally, if I’m trying to read posts themselves with that method, VO will only announce "text", nothing else. I can sort of get around this by VO+arrowing everywhere, but the problem with that is my focus is often jumped seemingly at random, to a different part of the screen. This seems to happen more with element-heavy screens, but it always happens sooner or later.
I’m very new to this app so I could be missing something here, but I just wanted to draw attention to this because I wouldn't want there to be accessibility bugs that hamper an otherwise excellent app.
