A few days ago, I asked folks on Twitter if they enabled Android's Themed Icon feature & which apps haven't implemented it.

Some of them recalled that Google is working on a feature to generate a themed icon for ANY app.

How good is the forced Themed Icon feature? Here's a comparison👇

Luis142,

@MishaalRahman I don't hate them, but I think the algorithm should instead make bigger contrast, i.e the background of the Facebook logo completely the contrast color, not a darker shade

Hello Fediverse.

Today we’re announcing the addition of PixelFed and Bluesky to our social web integrations on Flipboard.

Now you can see posts from Mastodon, PixelFed, Bluesky and, of course, Flipboard all in the same user experience. You can favorite, reply to, and boost any post. You can follow any user. You can explore any hashtag. And you can post text, photos and links to any timeline. Bluesky is available today for Flipboard on iOS and Android. PixelFed will be live in a few days.

Luis142,

@mike do you need to connect a personal mastodon/Bluesky/pixelfed account to your Flipboard account or will Flipboard automatically create profiles for these platforms or did I completely misunderstand this feature, because to me interacting means fully being able to interact with people on the fediverse

Free TVs for everyone! Wait...there's a catch. The company Telly is giving away 500,000 televisions, but you'll be inundated with ads you can't disable.

Luis142,

@TechDesk "currently we're only accepting registrations in the US" ffs why

Android 14 is adding a new safety feature to protect your hearing: Headphone loud sound alert.

Android will alert you if you've been listening to audio at a volume above the recommended level for long periods over your headphones. You can keep listening or lower the volume.

This was announced during the "what's new in Android Accessibility" session (H/T Cooooooob on Telegram): https://youtube.com/watch?v=w1Fqx_2SRro&t=490s

Google TV is rolling out some pretty big storage and performance improvements!

Here's a summary:

  • Storage: App Hibernation automatically hibernates apps not used in >30 days. Hibernation is an AOSP Android 12 feature that revokes permissions, stops notifications, and cleans up temp files.

Luis142,

@MishaalRahman are these the same archived apks as on Android through the play store when you're low on storage or is it a different system?

Looks like this setting just rolled out on iOS too. Guessing this will be important at #WWDC23 this year. Games? Streaming content?

Why now, brown cow? 🐮

Luis142,

@blake @chrismessina those games downloaded .obb files, that process was handled by each game differently which meant you'd have to stay in the app during the complete download or else you'd risk the background download process stopping. Nowadays more and more apps let Google play do this process using app bundles/ on demand feature delivery which seems to be the same approach that iOS is taking
