Sunlight is coming to the Vision Pro, with 3D planetary ornaments, live calculations and more!

Sunlight calculates daily key observable events of the sun and moon, such as time of sunrise and sunset, twilights, when observed from a specific location.

It will be available on launch day of the Vision Pro!

Is there a way to add haptic feedback to interactive widgets? I think the answer is no but it doesn't hurt to check with you folks too right? #iOSDev #WWDC23

First time needing bike directions since upgrading to the WatchOS beta. The new navigation UI is excellent. Not only does it (correctly) default to the map view, the view itself is much improved! WatchOS 10 is shaping up so well. #WatchOS #WWDC23

I didn’t do much work with #Xcode 15 Beta 5 (thankfully), but it seems that Apple has replaced the cascade #SwiftData PropertyOption with preserveValueOnDeletion(the opposite of cascade).

So this means that the default behavior now is a cascading delete, which is what they should have chosen from the beginning.

However, I feel bad for anyone who watches the #WWDC23 videos later, only to find that "cascade" doesn't exist.

I watched the WWDC video about interactivity with Swift Charts (very cool) but I'm confused about their example for selection. This raw selected date seems like something that would only be used by this View. Why is it a @\Binding instead of a @\State?

I'm releasing a major update to @PleaseDontRain on Sticky Widgets day (also known as Monday).

I made significant changes to the UI based on feedback I got from a design lab at WWDC. I thought that it would be fun to make a blog post describing their feedback and how I adjusted the app.

There's also a big jump in the number of images (and quality) as well as the ability to select themes!

📣 Hello! @bcapps and @mikaelacaron here–we're taking over the account to document making a new app in visionOS! 🥽

We're building an app to show albums as 3D vinyls and play them on a turntable with spatial audio. Follow along to see our progress! 👇 #visionos #buildinpublic

lickability,

First, we’re going to be screening “Meet SwiftUI for spatial computing“ and “Take SwiftUI to the next dimension” from #WWDC23 to re-familiarize ourselves with visionOS and get a feel for how we’ll start to tackle our visionOS app!

Did something change in HomePod automations with audioOS/iOS 17?
I had this automation for it to automatically play music when I arrive at home except if it’s Saturday, Monday, Sunday, Friday or Thursday. It used to work fine, but now it’s playing music even if it is one of those days.

As probably an expert in #localization by now (I wrote #BartyCrouch & @RemafoX_App), I felt like I should share my learnings from my deep-dive after #WWDC23.

So here’s an article answering the most common questions about String Catalogs:

The Apple experts in my WWDC design lab suggested that instead of using a blank navigation bar I should consider having the background color show there also. After playing around tonight I definitely think that looks really nice!

At #WWDC23 Apple announced that all third-party SDKs are required to specify how they handle user data in a manifest file named PrivacyInfo.xcprivacy. This will be mandatory by Spring 2024. At the moment, only one GitHub project has added this file.

Disappointed with my latest Feedback Assistant experience.
I discovered a bug in UIViewRepresentable, where a really basic UIView written with AutoLayout completely fails to size correctly in #SwiftUI, collapsing its content.
I took it to a #WWDC23 lab, spoke to SwiftUI engineers who tried to get it working and agreed that it's a bug, so pls submit feedback.
Get my response today: "Just use sizeThatFits on UIViewRepresentable". That doesn't work in iOS 15 and shouldn't be necessary!

Once goes live, I'll have my usual thread of related content here. I used to do this on Twitter. It involves discussing the announcements as well as testing of features announced prior to and throughout WWDC. I will welcome questions and requests for testing. I think I'll like doing this here much more than I did on Twitter. Oh and this thread will probably go on for months. I'll post things periodically as updates come.

Eloquence on iOS 17 (and I bet on macOS) betas is pronouncing certain words with the letter 'a' as ar instead of 'a'. "Meta" is pronounced "metar", "vegan" is pronounced "veeghern", etc. There are other examples.

Tell me I'm not just imagining this. Where in the world does this come from?

This iOS 17 voicemail preview feature works amazingly well. I've managed to avoid several spam calls by sending unknown numbers to voicemail. No more needing to worry about checking couple of seconds of silence or just crap. So far, the feature is accessible.

What? You mean to tell me that emoji isn't pronounced "back quote left bracket mo j i" with Eloq? First of the fixes in iOS 17 Dev beta 3. The 50% pitch issue with Eloquence is still there. Eloq is a bit quieter. I think. I can't tell if the dictionaries have been updated yet.

#WWDC23 #accessibility

ppatel,
@ppatel@mstdn.social avatar

Okay. Eloquence Dictionaries have not been updated from Beta 2. Eloquence saying "back quote, left bracket read, right bracket" when setting the read status for a an email in Mail has not been resolved in #iOS 17 dev beta 3.

Even though image recognition models are showing 0 KB of usage, they're working. I'm happy to see potential multiple language support for image descriptions in iOS 17 Dev beta 3.

It must be my memory playing tricks on me. I don't recall seeing speed offset for Eloquence in beta 2. It's there in beta 3.

The problem with words like "Vegan" has been fixed. Somewhat. Now the last syllable sounds a bit muffled. Lol. No idea what they're doing there.

As reported by @Marco, there is one (possibly 2) new UK English Siri Voices in iOS 17 Dev beta 3. Voice four sounds strange in that it is trying to immitate Cockney. It doesn't always succeed though. Voice three, which I also believe to be new, is possibly trying to immitate Lincolnshire accent. This one is far more consistent. I could be wrong about Lincolnshire part though. That voice sounds good and I can recognize an audiobook narrator.

Finally got watchOS 10 Dev beta 3 installed. Very happy to see that Eloquence doesn't default to higher sample rate on watchOS any more. I'm sort of getting the hang of this new interface. I want to see how it develops. I'm not convinced about how well it will work for efficiency for VO users. It may just be that I need to get used to it.

So that whole lower eloquence volume thing on iOS 17 beta 3, turns out it's variable volume if you're using eloquence without headphones. This achievement brought to you by ... I have no clue. It lowers and increases the volume randomly as far as I can tell. IT doesn't happen if you're doing a continuous read. But happens when navigating through the interface.

According to Gurman, #Apple is planning an appointment-only retail launch of the #Vision Pro in the US in early 2024, starting with stores in major areas like NY and LA. This is not surprising news since the product is going to be limited based on what the reports are.

After running three iOS 17 dev betas, I've come to the conclusion that Apple has managed to fix the speech slowing down and not working properly if you were using Airpods. It plagued some other headphones. But, Airpods were particularly susceptible to this bug.
