GogglaNYC, to Birds

What better way to end the day than to see a male American Kestrel perched on the finger of a statue in my local cemetery.

Check out the Brown Pelican - can there be a cooler bird?

This one was photographed last week at Clam Bayou in St. Petersburg, Florida.

After the most traumatic mosquito experience of my life a couple of weeks ago in Florida, I was rewarded with this magical scene of a Great Egret posing with its White Ibis and Roseate Spoonbill pals at the edge of a pond. This moment made the entire trip worthwhile.

Late summer is the time for dragonflies and this beautiful 12-Spotted Skimmer paused for a few seconds during its hunt for prey to indulge me in a photo op in Green-Wood Cemetery, Brooklyn, NYC.

When ever the moon is visible during the day, it's a mad race to try and capture some birds in front of it. This mated paired of red-tailed hawks (male up top, female below) was extraordinarily cooperative as they posed on a weather vane and I found the right spot from which to capture the moon in the background. In the end, it was the moon that moved out of frame first, and the hawks remained in position for several minutes.

Following my previous photo, this is red-tailed hawk, Christo, flying with a headless rat clutched in his talons. He was making a dinner delivery this evening to his nest of chicks. Yum!

This is Amelia, our local resident female red-tailed hawk. I've observed many hawks, but she is the only one who really looks like she loves to fly. When the wind picks up, she swoops and soars, circling all around her territory with joyful exuberance, making me smile each time I see her. 🥰
