I'd rather die than give you control.

Yesterday morning, very suddenly, my beloved cat Frankie Fangs died of a stroke. He fell off his cat tower, I heard it, I picked him up, and after trying some rescue breaths and his inhaler, I had a few moments to make him feel loved. Dev and I were there while he crossed over the Rainbow Bridge.

He was the best gato and was filled with unconditional love. If the spirit moves you, please donate to your local pet shelter because animals are the best parts of our lives and deserve all the the care we can give them. Frankie is survived by his little sister Whisper, and nine and a half years of incredible, joy-filled, incredibly funny, lifelong memories.

FritzAdalis,

@Tarah
Frankie Fangs is a great cat name. Sorry for your loss.

At @deweyritten ‘s house. None of the clocks in the kitchen match and all of them are wrong. It’s like I am in a kingdom hearts world.

As long as I'm spending Sunday shitposting about tech companies:

Does anyone else remember that Box is a company that exists? And, weirdly, is not the same as Dropbox?

I honestly am shocked either of these companies has a real business model given the commoditization of online storage, but the fact that there are two of them, and they have such similar names, is frankly just weird.

Glitch in the matrix?

FritzAdalis,

@_dm
Box dot com makes their money when someone signs up with a corporate email. They then contact the company and try to compliance-scare them into buying licenses.

I can’t believe it’s time for the Puppy Bowl and the Great American Rescue bowl already! Hopefully y’all are ready for this

FritzAdalis,

@jerry
I'm still salty about the Kitten Bowl.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has identified an unlikely public enemy No. 1 in his new crackdown on car theft: the Flipper Zero, a $200 piece of open source hardware used to capture, analyze and interact with simple radio communications.

On Thursday, the Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada agency said it will “pursue all avenues to ban devices used to steal vehicles by copying the wireless signals for remote keyless entry, such as the Flipper Zero, which would allow for the removal of those devices from the Canadian marketplace through collaboration with law enforcement agencies.” A social media post by François-Philippe Champagne, the minister of that agency, said that as part of the push “we are banning the importation, sale and use of consumer hacking devices, like flippers, used to commit these crimes.”

In remarks made the same day, Trudeau said the push will target similar tools that he said can be used to defeat anti-theft protections built into virtually all new cars.

“In reality, it has become too easy for criminals to obtain sophisticated electronic devices that make their jobs easier,” he said. “For example, to copy car keys. It is unacceptable that it is possible to buy tools that help car theft on major online shopping platforms.”

FritzAdalis,

@dangoodin
Wouldn't it be easier to ban keyless entry? Not sure if a slim jim is legal in Canada though, you'll have to ban door locks too.

matthew_d_green, to random

The Flipper Zero bans are amazing to me. And expected. Security on open IP networks only got to the (mediocre) state it’s at as a result of constant, unrelenting attacks. RF protocols are like a delicate species that’s never been exposed to predators.

FritzAdalis,

@matthew_d_green
Kinda like enterprise software.

What's your biggest guilty pleasure band? It's gotta be borderline shameful. I have quite a few, but I'll go with Styx to start.. 😂

FritzAdalis,

Probably just a Blue Collar Man.

FritzAdalis,

@codinghorror
I unironically enjoy Nickleback.

FritzAdalis,

I find them to be a pretty good pop band.

Ohio is apparently testing their tornado sirens, and that is why the fediverse is wooing. I had no idea Ohio was the center of the fedi

New from 404 Media: Patternz, a global phone spy tool which is built on advertising data, was specifically marketed as a "riot detection" tool, with maps pointing to New York City. Shows the aspirations of what companies selling this tech envision it for

If you've ever gotten this annoying error when trying to restart or shut down System 6 because StuffIt Expander 4.0.1/4.0.2 was running in the background, you can fix it by opening StuffIt in ResEdit and changing the existing 'mstr' resource 100 to have an id of 103.

'mstr' resources tell MultiFinder which menu items to generate fake clicks for in order to quit or open another file from Finder when the application is already open in the background. StuffIt needs one because its File->Open menu item is named File->Expand... but Aladdin goofed and numbered it 100, which is supposed to be the name of the 'File' menu if it's not named 'File'. By changing it to 103, it lets MultiFinder know how to remotely open a file and also unbreaks its ability to select File->Quit at shutdown time.

FritzAdalis,

@jcs
Neat, so Finder actually uses the menus to cleanly quit programs at shutdown?

FediFriends, I need your help 👇

I’ve built this little webpage
a few months ago to present together some of the work I did and help me find a job: https://emontheinternet.me

But, I am still uncertain about which drawing profile would be best for this, if any 🤔

I have not built this webpage for myself so I need external opinions. Your opinions (boosts welcome for reach) :boost_ok:

Which one of these
profile pictures do you think would work best on my webpage to find work? Or perhaps it would be best not to put any? What do you think?

Keep in mind that ✱
I am not targeting large corporations with that. I am aware my website doesn’t fit the “LinkedIn” style. But which picture do you think my favorite public-interest and/or privacy organizations would like the best? 💚👇❔

(read alt-text to see each picture' number)

EDIT: I added a poll below for people who prefer to vote without commenting. I could not include both a poll and pictures in the same post 📥👇

#JobSearch #Recruiters

FritzAdalis,

@Em0nM4stodon
I prefer #1 because more of the laptop stickers are readable and probably relevant. #2 probably looks the best as a thumbnail; on my screen the orange goggles are hard to distinguish at that size.

briankrebs, to random

Had to get a loaner vehicle from a local dealership because a 10 y/o car that I love needed a lot of work. So they gave me the latest model of the same car -- brand new -- which was vastly less powerful than ours, and kept trying to steer me between the lines and cause the steering wheel to rumble when I hit a line and all kinds of crap that just annoyed me.

The dealership probably thought they would entice me to buy the newer model, but driving it just made me more convinced I made the right decision to put the money into the old car.

FritzAdalis,

@briankrebs
Cool, what do you drive? Unless you're not telling.
