In other news, had Session Zero for the upcoming game last night. It went well!

A friend of mine came up with the idea that my character, samurai rabbit Harvey Chanbara, was trained in martial arts by an archeotech holographic representation of the RZA inside the mysterious "36th Chamber." Which is just somebody's ancient basement home theater setup stocked with a library of martial arts movies.

It is going to be a silly game.

Bridge of Birds, Story of the Stone, and Eight Skilled Gentlemen have always been favourites of mine (they're not, like, free of problems, obviously, but still good).

Turns out they were once collected into an omnibus edition, which I now own.

Tried watching again, and ... oof. Tapped out with like 45 mins to go. The visuals are interesting (in a 40k/Dune knockoff sort of way), but the script is just so very bad.

It's all so serious! Without any real solid ideas behind it to justify its existence, or even a sense of fun and levity to watch the space lasers go pew pew pew.

Sometimes I wonder about how I can be terrible with names, but I can still name pretty much any Transformer produced between 1983-1988 on sight.

Which has me wondering if I could remember people better if they came with little filecards listing their stats and flight speeds and stuff.

Or wait, that might just be Baseball Cards for ... non athletes. People cards.

Oh hey, here's a question for the #RPG and/or #TTRPG fans out there!

Imagine you're playing a one-shot at a convention. How much in the way of background/personality notes would you like in a pre-generated character?

The last game I ran at a con, I just cheated and used GI Joe filecard bios for a GI Joe themed one-shot (using #FengShui 2, for the record), so that had that wrapped up. But I'm running something original now, so I wonder how much depth players might want.

just watched a video about the lack of bicycles in hollywood productions. e.g. there are post apocalypse shows where there's no fuel or they can't use engines for other reasons, and the characters are shown walking or riding a horse. they never try bikes even though it's the most popular mode of transportation on the planet. Daryl from TWD on a bicycle? uncool. if a protagonist is doing it, it's a comedy. riding a bicycle is seen as a ridiculous thing to do unless you're a child. I am stunned.

There's a movie called Turbo Kid that's straight up "Mad Max with bikes."

Then again, it's also a schlocky, goofy gorefest, so the bikes are just another part of the joke.
