What apps would you love to have open-source alternatives for?

It seems like the FOSS community is continuing to grow, and FOSS apps keep getting better (Immich reallh blew my mind recently), which is a big win 😎 but there are still many apps I use that I would kill for an open source alternative. I am curious what you guys think? Are there any apps you’d love alternatives for?

I use Organic Maps to find places by name and OSMand to find places by address. Both can only the do one of the two things good, but it is doable.

OSM is not that user friendly as Google Maps for sure, but if you really want you really can replace GMaps. It probably heavily depends on your country and if the OSM community is active there, but for example here in Germany the mapping information is basically on par with GMaps

I Don't have WhatsApp anymore. Though I just deleted my WhatsApp account and said that I am no longer reachable via that crap. If you want to contact me use Signal. Most of my friends just installed Signal (a few took some time), but if you don't do it that way you will never get away from WhatsApp just because of the network effect...
And yes, you will miss out on some groups

I've had Threema for a while even before that, because my family group migrated there. Though I do not have a lot of contacts on there :D

You have to use an app for that. OSM is mostly a big database with an API access to it. There are a lot of them out there with a lot of different focusses. For navigating with a car OSMand is pretty good. They are on fdroid.

Gotta look at that. Live traffic info is one of those things, that OSM lacks...

I am rocking a Fairphone 4 with iodéOS and I am very happy with it. Though I am definitely not phone power user...

FDroid is a native app store, aurora is preinsralled as well as microG. I don't use any google apps and have none installed. Afaik there is no option to have GAPPS with iodéOS.
They do sell the fairphone with the OS preinsralled which is very nice and iodé is from france which is a plus in my book as well 😁

Fedora 38, one year ago. I am on 39 now and had to do a reinstall. It has its problems, a lot of problems actually, but is still miles better than windows in my opinion

Already defederated all servers I run from threads. It's just another reason why that was a good decision...

Ich finde das echt interessant dass die Kürzung des Bürgergelds überhaupt in Ordnung geht.
Es ist doch gesetzlich beschlossen dass das Bürgergelddem "Existenzminimum" gleicht, aber wie kann es dann rechtlich ok sein das Existenzminimum zu kürzen.....

I completely understand your confusion as I am confused myself. However in Germany a single politician (even the chancellor) is not that important as in the US for example. Mr Scholz isn't Germany, heck he is not even the government. He is just a single guy who is supposed to direct the other parties which he fails to do...
