Windows 11 build 26100, a potential final release build of Windows 11 24H2, is looking like it could be a mess. https://www.windowslatest.com/2024/04/06/windows-11-24h2-build-26100-causes-undocumented-issues-blocks-some-apps/

BTyson,

@evilcookies98 I was more saying that generally, if this is actually the final base build of 24H2, that's not going to be good, since it would get to users not in the Insider program. Fortunately though, I really don't think this is going to end up being the final one. This happened back in 2018 with Windows 10 1803, where 17133 was initially going to be the final build, but some additional bugs were discovered that they wanted to fix, so they made another new build with the fixes, which is why we instead got 17134.

On my one phone, the one which can't get iOS 17, I decided to simplify things, partially influenced by @TheQuinbox telling me about how Edbrowse doesn't support JavaScript (I think? I could be wrong). Anyway, I almost never use Safari on this phone and when I do, it's for super simple sites only which don't require it, so I decided to disable JavaScript in the Advanced settings to make things feel more simple.

BTyson,

@TheQuinbox And not to mention, if you don't need JavaScript, it can probably help load pages faster having it disabled.

It always warms my heart to see older people trying to be inclusive, even just with their language. Me and my dad ordered some pizza, and went to pick it up. When we walked into the restaurant, someone said hi to us, and my dad said, hey. How you guys d- then he stopped himself, and started again. How you folks doing? Such a tiny thing and I doubt many people (if anyone) would've even noticed if he didn't, but it truly is the small things that matter and show that he's at least trying. And I mean, he's a 50-year-old straight cis white guy. By all regards he's privileged and I doubt anyone would've said anything to him. And yet, he still tried. Warms my heart.

BTyson,

@TheQuinbox I'm so happy to hear this! I absolutely love that.

I sort of feel as though my phone stays cooler if I'm using Eloquence as opposed to Fred. Does this make sense? I always thought using Fred would use less resources as I thought it was released before Eloquence.

We as a species are so strange. Like, how did we get to a point where we're like, oh, I'm so bored with normal food, you know what would make this better? If my mouth felt like it was on fire while I was eating it! Or was it more, oh my god, this tastes so bland. We can put this stuff on it, and it'll make it taste better, but as a consequence, our mouths will feel like they're on fire. Hmm.

BTyson,

@Bri It's an interesting thing to think about. And as I get older, I like spicy food more. Like I used to never touch it and now that's the only way I like to have chicken.

BTyson,

@datajake1999 @Bri @radio1975 This reminds me of all the McDonalds jokes that happened on TT way back in 2017.

Windows 11 build 26100 could be a potential RTM candidate build (meaning it could be the final version which would be released to customers with updates).

I've published my second blog post! This time, talking about how to get TDSR working in WSL, speaking through NVDA. https://quinbox.xyz/blog/posts/tdsr-wsl-nvda

BTyson,

@TheQuinbox @matt I encounter some of NVDA's terminal issues as well. It has problems if you try to run a scan/repair with the system file checker.

An Easter poll for everyone. Do you like peeps? If so, how?

BTyson,

@jaybird110127 I like to microwave them and watch them blow up.

My horrifically broken sleep schedule has seemingly returned, right in time for the last 6 weeks of my senior year, in which I probably completely and totally stop giving a fuck. Yay!

BTyson,

@TheQuinbox I know that feeling all too well.

At some point, iOS (maybe 17) got two new assignable VoiceOver functions: Scroll to top, and scroll to bottom. Conveniently, four-finger swipe up and down is unassigned by default. So now on my phone, four-finger swipe down will move the current scrolling view as far up as it can, and the same thing works in reverse. Useful for webpages, long lists, and message history. You can repeatedly scroll up to quickly load more messages.

BTyson,

@simon @bryansmart This is precisely why I have no intention of updating off of iOS 16 anytime soon.

The days of always having to reboot for Windows updates on Windows 11 may be coming to an end. https://www.windowslatest.com/2024/03/04/windows-11-is-getting-rebootless-updates-with-hotpatching-feature/

I have gotten Visual Studio Code now configured the way I like it to replace Notepad. I even got Zen Mode to start on startup now so as to de-clutter the screen. I will be removing Notepad from all of my devices. Microsoft changed what was once a useful utility.

BTyson,

@JeffBishop You can still use the old Notepad, I just disable the app alias then do copy as path on the file, then go to run, and do notepad (paste) and hit enter to load the file in the old Notepad.

BTyson,

@JeffBishop That's weird. I wonder if that happens if you disable automatic updates in the store? My thinking is that that's happening when Notepad gets auto updated.

In the latest Dev & Canary builds regedit now supports limiting your search to only that specific subtree - I've wanted to have this for such a long time 😊

BTyson,

@JenMsft It looks like that shortened link isn't working. It says 25052 instead of 26052.

I need a thing for windows where I can set up certain typos I make often to just auto correct. I assure you I never mean to type THat or htat or taht, I mean that. Every. Single. Time. I don't mean jsut or juts, I mean just. Every time. I make such typos so often that a replacement like this would actually be helpful.

BTyson,

@TheQuinbox @Kaliah I know Windows has the hardware keyboard typing suggestions where it can predict the next word/words you may want to type, but I'm not sure if it works for suggesting corrections. I think on the iOS side you can set up text replacements/substitutions, one that's there by default is that "omw" will get replaced with "on my way". But even at that it seems glitchy.

So I'm kinda curious what's going on with everyone getting new recorders. I don't understand the excitement.

BTyson,

@Kaliah I don't know much about it, but there's some new Zoom recorders (the same company I think that made the original Zoom H1 recorder which didn't have accessibility) and these new recorders that are out now have voice guidance built in if I'm understanding everything right.

Here is a short recording of how the microphones sound on the #VisionPro. Let me know what you think.

BTyson,

@mikedoise To me, the microphones on the Vision Pro sound similar to the iPhone.

For 2FA on GitHub, is it bad to use SMS for that? I don't use GitHub on the web much at all.
