Finally finished breaking the DRM on my pre-2009 iTunes Music Store purchased songs. I am now the proud owner of free-and-clear AAC files I paid for almost 20 years ago.
@dennis_p Ah yeah. I still have my OG mp3 rips but I loved buying from iTMS when it launched. They removed DRM in 2009 but everything bought before that still has it. There WAS a loophole wherein you deleted a purchase & re-downloaded, which gave a non-DRM’d file. Apparently that was ‘fixed’ at some point.
I basically had to painstakingly go through my library song by song.
@allen099@reckless1280 While I don’t normally listen to The Vergecast, I’ll wait for the next episode to drop and see if there’s frank chatter about it. Then I can feel better forming an opinion.
Right now it just feels odd, esp for someone who enjoys taking companies to task for BS.
