Even on nights w/out dramatic #sunsets, I try to keep myself mindful of my privilege. Sitting on this porch with a devoted dog or 3, surrounded by absolute silence and an approaching level of unpolluted darkness that few ever have the luxury of experiencing... despite all the daily pieces of angst, this place is good for the soul.

There is basically next to zero food in this house. Which irritates me. Yet when start trying to make out a grocery list, I can't come up with more than about two things I want to put on it. Which irritates me way more. Do I get to blame this on the heat?? 🙄 😆 Me thinks I might be having a bad case of spoiled brat syndrome.

One of the first storms of #monsoon passed close last night and created a #sunset that looked like fire in the air! I wasn't able to post it last night, so I'll use it to wish a good night to all. May the monsoon come quickly and drench the whole state of #Arizona

@HistoPol It was a complete other-world experience to stand in the middle of it. Ethereal red light from horizon to horizon. Makes even your skin & clothes look red. I don't have either the equipment or technique (or both) to get a photo to show more than a percentage of reality of the sunset moments. Maybe someday!

I had to go back and look. That's an orange ''traffic cone'' with reflective tape and a fiberglass post in its center. It's there marking where I want a contractor to do something for me. Preferably before Christmas. 🙄

If I'm following you twice and you wonder why.... I bailed off Twitter on Election Day, 2022. After a satisfying six months on home.social, I had to choose something else since that server was closing. I test flew Calckey since late May, and still have an account there. But It's not working out all that well for me, and I'm leaning toward making my primary account elsewhere. Possibly here. Time will tell! ⏰

@elperronegro Yes, apparently. I keep reminding myself that it's new and fast-developing. But if it doesn't work (literally) then I can't use it. I'm waiting to see what changes on 7/19 before I make any definite decision.

S.L.O.W.L.Y. Everything here moves really, really slowly. Mostly a product of being so remote. Yes, I'm hoping not to have to migrate any more accounts at all. But there are ''issues,'' and none of them of my making or choosing. I just want something that works for me (home.social was FINE) without having to make any more changes, at least not for a really long time.

@HistoPol It would take some typing to detail it all, but a super-condensed summary: at least 2/3 of the time I had to spend was getting eaten up watching spinning wheels, error messages, and code hiccups. Some things about its interface I really like. Some I really don't--IE: every damned thing you click has to open in a popup window. If there's an option (like on Mastodon's extended interface) to have one column that changes w/your clicks...I haven't found it yet.

@HistoPol But to sit here and tell you all the different, minor things...hmmm, not sure I can in the time I have. The big thing has been the immense, consistent drag/lag time & down time. It's been really hard even to explore the place fully, just due to wait-wait-wait on EVERYthing. I get that it's in rapid-development, but I don't have enough social media moments to tolerate it indefinitely. As said earlier, I'm kind of waiting to see what difference Calckey's transition makes on 7/19.

For quite a while I was suspicious of my own internet connection. But now that I have a satellite dish and everything else is snapping right along--and Calckey is not... well, again, I'll wait until they make their changes and see what/if that changes. 🤷‍♀️ I might keep the acct even if I make something else my primary, just so I can check back on it now & then, but for now, I really just can't cope with 70-ish% dysfunctionality.
