I just discovered another #iOS17#VoiceOver pronunciation bug. Eloquence can't pronounce 'resistor' or 'resistors' right. It sounds like 'rezzister', where the ee sound is pronounced like eh as in 'head'. iOS 17.1.1 @BTyson
Since buying my #iPhone 15 Pro, I've been wondering why it can't seem to do one simple thing that my iPhone 11 could: show a modal (blocking) alert when my battery is low. Some people might find that sort of thing annoying, but my new device has died multiple times literally without warning which is far more of an issue.
According to a thread on @AppleVis, this type of alert now lives in the Dynamic Island, which my old phone didn't have. I haven't been able to verify the claim either way. But if true, the Dynamic Island has transitioned for me from being a bewilderingly pointless but ultimately harmless feature, to something that is actively taking useful information and choice away from me as a #VoiceOver user.
I've set up an automation shortcut as a replacement, encountering a silly number of #accessibility bugs in the Shortcuts app along the way. The resulting alert doesn't steal focus when manually executing the shortcut to test, nor is it modal. So I have no idea if it will work as I want when triggered for real.
Is there any way to actually manually sync a ringtone from a #Mac to an #iphone with #VoiceOver? I'm trying to do it through #Finder, but the process seems to require dragging and dropping, with literally no keyboard equivalent! Of course, VoiceOver is just not dropping where I want it to. Is my only option to use #GarageBand on the #iOSDevice itself?
This is a notification from #MicrosoftTeams on #Mac that just... utterly made me stop in my tracks, not because of the tab key, but because of the message itself... A company that touts it's so-called #accessibility has the following to say, copied directly from #VoiceOver:
'Tab viewer. You may not be able to use your keyboard to return to Microsoft Teams after entering the following area. Press tab to continue to the viewer. Entering Tab Topics of app Help tab panel'
As I swipe left and right within an iOS Mail message list with #VoiceOver, it is taking around a whole second for the #screenReader to start announcing each item. Has anyone else experienced this, and found a way to fix it? It happens regardless of whether a folder has 20 messages in it or 20 thousand, and has rendered the app unusable. #accessibility
I know Microsoft Word has never been the greatest app for using on Mac OS, but I always managed to create & edit documents without too much trouble. I haven’t used it for a while, but today I wanted to work on a document, only to find it is now completely unusable. I get no Voiceover feedback when typing, none of the navigation keys seem to work, so I can’t edit the text on the rare occasions when I can get VO to read the document. I can’t select text or do anything much. I know there have been some updates to the Word app in recent weeks, but I never expected to be unable to use it with Voiceover.
Does anyone have any idea why this might be happening?
I have restarted the MacBook, and even deleted a Voiceover Activity I had set up ages ago for Word. This has made no difference to the problem. Tearing my hair out here. #Apple#MacBook#Microsoft#Word#Voiceover#Accessibility
"Get a sneak peek at Sunday's #UnmutePresents episode! This week, I provide a brief overview of using Gravity Forms with VoiceOver. Discover the basics of adding fields and editing forms in WordPress. It's a quick guide, not a complete tutorial – ideal for beginners. Give it an early listen with the attached audio! #Accessibility#WordPress" #Voiceover#Gravityforms
question to #Blind#iPhone users. do you know guyz if the #image descriptions we add for #Voiceover on the Photos app is attached to the file when we copy it to the computer. #iPhone
While exploring for ways to improve the image descriptions in the RealityCheck apps viewport, I decided to create a tiny app that takes screenshots of the visionOS simulator and sends them for analysis to the gpt4-vision API. After that, I compared the results using the same simulator states between VoiceOver image description and GPT https://youtu.be/ap1suWiS9eI?si=wJFrNowfGO7-RrjQ
I fixed the VoiceOver problem with my first interactive widget. As I suspected the problem was with the new .invalidatableContent() added in iOS 17. Once I ripped that out things started working as I expected and I was able to activate my button via VoiceOver.
This was unexpected. After adding this code to my new widget the VoiceOver bounding box does encompass the entire widget, but the actual Text isn't read. 😐
Something else I'm struggling with is using the button that is inside of my new interactive widget with VoiceOver. I added an accessibilityHint of "Push the button" and I do hear it being spoken when I select the button. However, when I push the button it just launches the app.
If I turn off VoiceOver the button works as expected.
You know, it's kinda crazy that Mac now has a Hammerspoon to allow VoiceOver users to get an image described by GPT4-vision, but there's no NVDA addon for this. Kinda makes me wonder if the blind developer community for Macs is going to have more tools than Windows folks one of these days. They already have VOCR, sounds for UI actions, offline, I think, translation of the VO cursor's contents, and probably more Hammerspoon stuff.
Is anyone else on #MacOS#Sonoma having a problem with #VoiceOver where nothing is announced when they arrow through a lot of text fields? Please don't say I'm the only one. I mean it's not even consistent; it'll work completely fine in web apps, but won't in others like Notes, Pages, or Mona. Shocking #a11y and #ScreenReader#Bug here from #Apple. Really quite disappointed with the Sonoma release. Glad that Apple are pausing feature updates to work on #Bugfixes.
On the latest #ios with #voiceover how do you tell if your in private browsing mode with #safari? Apparently the address bar is a different color, but voiceover gives no indication of that. #blind@main
So, there’s an issue in MacOS 14.2 beta 2. If you have Typing Echo set to Nothing, you won’t hear characters or words you arrow through. Setting it to Characters, Words, or both works around this issue.
At last! The new Whatsapp for Mac is accessible with Voiceover. I’d given up trying to use the original version on my MacBook, but the new version seems fully accessible. #Whatsapp#Accessibility#Voiceover
it would be great if the Conair scale in my hotel room was a bluetooth model so I could weigh myself independently. Alas, it is not, at least I don't think so. I'm not able to set it up through the Conair Scales app. I have stood on it and taken some pictures with Be My AI. I was able to decipher the instructions, and I was able to wake up the scale and get it set to zero, but for some reason it won't show my weight. When I take a picture of me standing on the scale, it says the digital display is blank. If I jump off the scale and take a picture, it says that it's set to zero. I'm going to need some cited help with this.
Speaking of scales, does anyone have any recommendations for an accessible digital scale besides Qardio? I have nothing against Qardio, but wondering if there are other #accessible options available. #fitness#voiceover#iOS#health
Using voiceover on IOS in none English languages isn't always a smooth experience.
Bugs can remain unaddressed for years.
For example, a simple translation error that had voiceover speak the Power Off button as: "Power source is off". Has finally been addressed in the IOS 17.2 beta. This bug has only been arround since Hebrew was added to voiceover in IOS 8.
Another translation error that has voiceover say: "Shape control tool", instead of: "form controls" in the rotor, still remains.
Moreover, IOS 17 has introduced a serious bug where every apostrophe is spoken as: "xd7xb3", and it is still present in beta 17.2.
Watching @pluralistic talk at supercon. I wish people understood this 15 years ago. I only joined fb/insta this past year for my dance show and because Mac Pro only sees you as pro if you are on these platforms. #voiceover that’s true too.
Will I book because of these platforms? No. I am only seen as a real person from these platforms.
Me talking with you all is a better actual use of my time. You want to hire me for tech, vo, or #dance go ahead.
Discovering that the new tracks I recorded for a #voiceover demo sample are clipped. Recorded them with levels set too high.
You can bump up low recording levels quite a bit but can't do much with clipped material. The full sound simply isn't there to play with and adjust. I'll have to re-re-do them. 🙁
"We’re excited to announce the launch of an invitation-only U.S. beta that enables KDP authors to quickly and easily produce an audiobook version of their eBook using virtual voice narration"
There's a huge community of voiceover actors who this will potentially impact.
This thing where #Voiceover announces the wrong artist/song while going through #Spotify tracks is really, really annoying. Fix your stuff, guys. Please.
