The #trackball is really the best pointer of a laptop. Scrolling with the trackball is just great.

@debacle there isn't current plans for us to build a Pocket with a trackpad but the whole thing is built in a modular way so that someone could make a new keyboard with a different design that had a trackpad instead or a different keyboard layout etc.
This beauty finally arrived, Ploopy Adept #trackball.
Last year I tested the water with a Ploopy Nano, a fantastic little trackball that easily sat between my split keyboard. The only issue for me was not so much the lack of buttons, but the inability to map keyboard keys together with trackball movement. With a trackpad you can hold ⌘ and swipe to zoom in Figma.

this is the microswitch you should replace under the button.
A few bucks apiece, but if you have half a dozen of these trackballs lying around your house because your whole family uses them, $2 to renew the trackball is much better than $35 for a new one.

@lanodan mais t'es sûr.e que remplacer par un bouton MX résoudrait le problème? Parce que j'imagine le truc et je me dis que la course est plus longue et qu'il faut probablement encore plus de force pour maintenir le clic... Faut pas plutôt revoir la disposition?
@morayner Le soucis que j'ai c'est pas trop la force (encore que, les Kailh Choc demandent presque aucune force) mais plus qu'il n'y aucune marge de flottement entre le clic et le fond, sur lequel je me retrouve parfois à un peu trop forcer par manque de différence entre les deux.
Et coté disposition j'ai le même soucis avec les boutons-click de mon UHK pour changer de calque où passer à un double-click pour garder le calque à pas mal changé les choses.
I've gone full #keeb nerd and added a #trackball to my work setup. 2 x 22inch (55cm) monitors with my laptop screen as a third displaying the keymapp app from ZSA to show me where the keys are on each layer (I'm slowly learning) and now an old trackball which was sitting around in the office. I haven't used one since I was little, so I'll see how I get on with it for a week before I get my own.

Yes, it's fast become my favourite. I had to use a standard keyboard this morning, and it felt so weird!! But it did take me a couple of weeks to get used to the split (even from a non-split ergonomic keyboard). I think it's mainly the matrix layout that's tripped me up, but I'm getting there.
@DodoTheDev@chfkch i have a kinesis advantage 2 for my home office. I love the concave shape, but it’s not portable so I might go for these small ones next—though not any time soon I think 😄
Why I was on the point of buying a trackball mouse but did not
Firstly, I would not have had to pay for the mouse, so money was not the deciding factor (my medical insurance gives me rewards for exercising along with a 20% discount which would have covered the full cost).

@danie10 Used to love my trackball mice, but they gave in after many years' service - mostly the click switches. Nowadays they seem terribly expensive.
@withaveeay yes I've seen some reports of hardware issues vs fixed laser mouse with zero moving parts. Certainly that Logitech wireless one I was looking at was a pretty over the top price. Many of the wired ones do look a lot cheaper.
@bradlinder It's good to see an open source one! I really liked the Trackman Marble but it got discontinued, and I couldn't find anything else that was quite the same shape.
But in this case, if you like this design, you'll always have the option of making a new one yourself (or having someone else make one for you).
I think I'm going to need to move away from an utterly bog-standard #mouse and start using the stationary #trackball variety. Not for ergonomics or similar, but for desk layout.

@jonathanmatthews I've used a trackball for years and my current one which I really like is an Aptico speed link wireless trackball. You can even scroll left or right by moving the roller side to side.
With that being said, does any #trackball nerd out there know how the #ploopy works w/ drivers? I'm not sure I am in the market for it yet as the kit is a bit expensive, but looking at the alternatives I'm not really sure I trust the brands.
@louis@mms I recently got a Glove80 with Red Pro switches (had normal red switches before which I found too hard to press). It's low profile and I find it absolutely amazing.

Bo i to mam na stanie. I dużo łatwiej mi obronić ten wybór. Do gier się nie nadaje ale za to na biurku jest porządek (no nie do końca jest to prawda stąd mocno wykadrowana focia) bo nie trzeba dodatkowego miejsca na ruch myszką. Na wyjazdach to ogromna zaleta. Oczywiście są i ludzie którym wystarczy touchpad ale dżizas szanujmy się!
Przez lata używałem Thinkpada z samym trackpointem i to jeszcze miało sens. #klawiatura#trackball
@piotrsikora myślę że do pewnych zastosowań trackball jest niezastąpiony. Chyba niektóre urządzenia medyczne mają już takie manipulatory wbudowane. Ja w pracy mam zwykła myszkę bo stwierdziłem że dłoń musi mieć urozmaicenie i może później dotkną mnie jakieś problemy z nadgarstkiem
