Any thoughts on running arm64 on Windows?

I'm looking to replace my family's laptop used mostly for web browsing, word processing, and making sure my cross platform apps work. I have a Framework Laptop 16 AMD Ryzen in pre-order which is supposed to ship next month.

Would a Surface Pro 9 or a Thinkpad X13s be a good choice for this use case?

I realized that I haven’t showed you all of my black hole doodles yet! This is probably the most recent one. I can tell because the shading makes the holes look more convincing, and that took me a lot of practice to figure out how to do that. Can you find the waterbear?

Question for the #Linux crowd. Does anyone know of a distribution which would work on a Microshaft Surface Pro 7? Now that MS has infected my tablet with uninstallable Copilot, I would like to return their favor and uninstall Windows. Any help is appreciated!

Looking for new to replace my Pro 6. I'm overwhelmed by the number of choices and annoyed so many devices have removed basic ports 😠

Trying to decide between the Surface Laptop 5 and Dell 13. I've seen the Surface in person and like it but reviews are poor. I've not seen the Dell but reviews are fantastic but it has few ports and apparently some quality control issues. Any thoughts? Advice? Alternatives? Thanks!

Anyone got a third-party slim pen? I have an official one but my kittens are very hungry for it, literally.

Thinking of getting a cheap one to leave attached to my Surface Laptop Studio, and keep the Real Deal in a drawer for when I need it. Silly but...man, that thing was expensive =/

Un petit retour d'expérience sur GNU/Linux installé sur une Microsoft Surface (et ça marche plutôt très bien).

Seriously considering moving back from the Surface Laptop Go 2 to the Surface Go 3.

I made the switch in the first place because while I love the flexibility/modularity/all-in-one-ness of the Go, in 2022 I found myself using it in my lap a LOT, and (like the Surface Pro), the Go is NOT lap-able. The Laptop Go, on the other hand, is (as its name implies) a traditional laptop.

But the Laptop Go has quite a few drawbacks, too.

@maxleibman@mastodon.social avatar

Quick rundown of the drawbacks of the Surface Laptop Go…

All generations:

  1. No backlit keyboard.

  2. Terrible screen (low resolution, poor color reproduction, not great backlight).

  3. Storage tops out at 256 GB

First two generations:

  1. Terrible battery life.

Vs. Surface Go and other Surfi:

  1. Worse touchscreen experience (no active digitizer/no Surface Pen compatibility).

Alright, we got some nice updates to the Universal Blue images for Microsoft Surface devices!

This morning we landed kernel modules ootb so you don't need to config them yourself. Switched off of TLP as recommended by upstream, and fixed some screen scaling factor issues.

We're now discussing what image/desktop variation should be on what form factor:

https://github.com/ublue-os/surface/issues/32

At this rate @squillace might not need to fix any bugs!

Who's down for a bit of an unfair folding phone fight? https://somegadgetguy.com/2023/10/24/oneplus-open-vs-surface-duo-2-an-unfair-folding-phone-fight/ OnePlus Open vs Surface Duo 2!

The Open is a great piece of hardware, but what can Android tablets learn from Microsoft's dual-screen experiments?

I like my Surface Laptop Studio, definitely a good move over the Surface Book (LOVED the idea, but detach wasn't ready for prime time, BSOD/No dGPU detected often)

Two things:

  1. Wish the Tablet mode magnet was much stronger and 'tablet' form flatter in general

  2. I really do miss the most underrated aspect of the Surface Pro line: since the keyboard is JUST a keyboard and guts are in the display, NO HOT THING ON YOUR LAP!

Laptop Studio 2 review: nice build with a 120Hzdisplay, adaptive touchpad, and a unique hinge but short battery life and expensive at $2000.

Apparently it could be so much more.

Fedora Linux 39 Beta is available!

If you're able, please give it a whirl and help us catch bugs ahead of the stable release at the end of October. 💪

photonicon,

@fedora
Works wonderfully 😉
Surface Pro7 i5 16GB

  • Most basic function keys (brightness, volume...) - Fits
  • Audio - Fits
  • Camera - I don't have the Surface-Kernel installed. As of today, the camera is not supported even with the this kernel. A normal webcam will have to do.
  • TouchScreen - Should work with the kernel, but I don't need a touch screen at the moment.
  • Bluetooth - Works quite well, one or the other hardware is still twitching.
  • Performance - Runs 😀
