Okay #dotnet peeps. I'm trying to upgrade packages in Jetbrains #Rider, but there doesn't seem to be a way to multiple select a bunch of packages in the Nuget window and do right-click => "update". I seem to have to do it one package at a time. This makes (for example) upgrading from .Net 8 RC1 to RC2 extremely painful.

I refuse to believe such a basic feature isn't available.

What am I missing?

Still undecided about whether to go #Windows or #Mac for my new laptop.

Currently using the #Macbook Pro while working on site for a client but Visual Studio for Mac has some shortcomings.

This would lead me down the Windows route so that I could continue to use 'full' Visual Studio but I'm not a fan of #Win11.

I could install #Jetbrains #Rider on the MBP but then I'm also not a fan of #reSharper either - although my experiences were sometime ago now.

Decisions, decisions

No, , that's called a method name.

My god, adding a conditional breakpoint in #Jetbrains #Rider (and I assume other editors) and #DotNet makes things slow.

I only have 20k pieces of data (admittedly large individual pieces, but still), and I went from finishing the run in about fifteen seconds to waiting for five minutes before I hit my breakpoint.

This isn't me complaining about anything, just kind of wild that adding a single "Does this int equal this int?" adds so much overhead! I had time to type this whole post!

@khalidabuhakmeh is there a setting in #JetBrains #Rider that will size the editor tab groups equally when I drag a document out and create a new tab group (e.g. how VSC does it when you go from 2 tab groups to 3)?

An absolute BANGER of a release for Rider 2024!

Thank you @khalidabuhakmeh and co.

Lots of goodies in here, as always, happy to continue being a JetBrains toolbox subscriber.

Also, thank you for unbundling that pesky AI plugin. You did the good thing.

The one you can't see in the screen is Blazor WebApp.

@khalidabuhakmeh In VS Code and Visual Studio, when I select a tab in my editor, it will automatically select the file in the tree view/outline of the project.

How do I do that in Rider?

I need you to cut the crap.

I know that on linux (at least, ubuntu-based distros) is a mess right now, but my dotnet is installed in a very normal place, why are you having issues finding it?!

An image of my console upon running dotnet --list-runtimes. It shows that I have runtimes, and that my system-wide dotnet install knows where they are. . .so WHY DOESN'T RIDER?!

b4ux1t3,
@b4ux1t3@hachyderm.io avatar

Yep, I apologize for besmirching #Rider's name. This is because #DotNet on Ubuntu-based distros is a mess right now.

@khalidabuhakmeh - do you how I can restart the code analysis in #rider

When I switch branches I frequently get this but after a clean & rebuild it does not clear.

If I click on the count in the IDE info bar (e.g. 42 errors in 21 files) it will open the next erroring file but the errors clear almost immediately meaning there isn't actually anything wrong from a compiler point of view.
The solution builds and runs just fine even with these in place is just masks any genuine error in the code

Anyone gotten to build a container without fast mode and still be able to access user secrets?

Our container doesn't currently work well with fast mode. I've told VS to build it in regular mode and that works fine. But in Rider, when disabling fast mode, all user secrets are null. I've tried mounting volumes directly etc. to no avail. Hoping someone else has slayed this one already 🤞

@khalidabuhakmeh , does #rider allow saving and restoring various window layout configurations?

Sometimes I'm on my Surface screen, and sometimes I'm on a massive 4k screen - each of which benefits from radically different tool window layouts.

@khalidabuhakmeh next year I want to talk about how I transition from #IntelliJ to #Rider in 1 week and start writing in #CSharp , thanks to you guys whoever put that intellij shortcut chooser option at the begining I felt like I did not change 😎

Here is the intro: I was happy with VS.NET(2004-C#-2 or something) at the begining then I needed to write java and used #Eclipse around 10 years then everyone moved to #Intellij and I used it 7 years after that I moved to Rider....(I just need to spend more time and write more code)

Took less than three hours to get things swapped over, #DotNet and #Rider installed, all that jazz. Of course, my dotfile Makefile helped a lot.

@khalidabuhakmeh I know #rider 's http client supports some built-in variables, but this collection by Postman is really extensive. Maybe as part of the collaboration between Microsoft's and JetBrains' http client protocol, you could consider a common set of built-in variables like this:

Anyone thoughts on vs for development?

I’d prefer to do most of my dev work on Linux and I’m using IDEs for all other languages, so Rider seems like a good choice.
But I remember some people complaining it cannot match Visual Studio when it comes to .net in certain areas?

An update notice reminded me of this plugin for #Jetbrains #Rider. Every #dotnet developer should use a plugin like this. I see this one supports #Resharper too, but if there's another extension like it for Visual Studio running sans-Resharper I'd love to know in order to keep my team in check.

It has become a tool that I don't need much anymore because it has helped me so much in the past to recognize complex code
