Steady snow accumulating all afternoon. We were going to walk to a few errands, but have deferred those to tomorrow.
With it being almost warm-ish (-2C) and our canal opened for skating as of yesterday, there must be a few people have had that uniquely magical experience today of skating in the falling snow.
It's a hard-to-beat experience, though with the wind really screaming out there now, I think the window on doing that comfortably has closed for today.
Except last year, when the #RideauCanal in #Ottawa didn't open for skating, the average opening date for the skating rink over the last 10 years was January 13.
Between 1972 and 1982 the average opening date was December 21, three weeks earlier.
This graph shows the 5 year moving average over the last 45 years (X-axes). The latest the canal rink ever opened was February 2, in 2001.
It is not too late to give up hope, but it needs to be really cold soon else we miss out on another season.
