Fragile - IMO Yes' best album. Or at least my favorite.
No need to rehash my previous comments, but the remix here is quite interesting. On Roundabout, for example, Bruford's bass drum is nearly as prominent as his snare. And there's certainly no lack of Squire's bass playing, which is (as always) quite forceful.
Again from the Rhino box set, and another stellar pressing.
Reminded again about Wilson Page’s delightful #Songwhip site that provides free smart links to over a dozen different #music#streaming platforms for artists, albums, and songs
Another great addition to my CD collection. This time it’s Ayreon’s masterpiece “The Human Equation“. A truly great rock opera. And it’s also the special edition, with a bonus DVD.
A new piece, and a new video.
The music: I had been stuck in a loop using a scale that has two steps followed by two gaps, so E, G, G#, B, C, D#. I recorded one thing I really liked, Composition #5, and nothing else worked. I picked up the Danelectro tuned in open G#, and after a few minutes the opening riff emerged and I recorded it immediately. The rest followed quickly, except for the drums, which required a lot of finagling. This is the most "prog rock" thing I've recorded in a long time, I think.
The video: An impressionistic Sci-Fi story which you can hang your own narrative on, but which certainly reflects subconscious and conscious elements of my own psyche. Links follow. #bandcamp#rock#progressiverock#diy#oakland#bayarea#guitar
HIGH. A song about a guy who gets pushed out of an airplane: his thoughts as he's falling. Right up to impact. He's just decided to accept it and resolve his life in his mind. I know, you're, "I wouldn't be thinking stuff like that, I'd be going AUGGGGH!" ...but you aren't him. Anyway, it has great electric violin on it. Balladic in tone.
Worked with prog rock legend Jerry King on this. It's free on bandcamp.
Goddamn it #Yes, once again in the post-#JonAnderson era you teased us with a fairly rocking lead-off song to a new record only to spoon out the easy-listening pablum next. The titles of the remaining unreleased tracks don’t sound like they offer much else.
