#PBOT Bicycle advisory committee presentation about "#ClimateEmergency declaration" work "depending on funding" is so totally absurd. #pdxBikes save you money, cars cost obscene amounts of money to serve... Totally bullshit strategy that you'll somehow get people out of their cars without cutting back on how much debt you rack up encouraging them to drive 🤡 💸 💸 💸 #InducedDemand
@ascentale Also they constantly talk about how it was so visionary to stop building more freeway (though they really did as much as terrain would allow anyway) but can't add up how removing car space might reduce car use 🙃
re: why #Portland can't have nice things: The trick is to make each "ride your bike in relatively car-free safety" event an expensive optional line-item requiring lots of money for "traffic control", but frame as unavoidable the $2M+/day we spend letting cars have free reign of the entire system for the other 362 days.
Don't miss: helmets and armbands from PBOT, but still not a connected bike network to ride home on #pdxBikes 😞 "Southwest Neighborhood Bike Fair is a free, family-friendly event that includes biking lessons for children, learn-to-ride coaching for adults, quick-fix bike repair, and e-bike demos. Hosted in partnership with the Mittleman Jewish Community Center and Community Cycling Center.
Sunday, July 23 from 9:00 am to noon at MJCC https://bit.ly/swbikefair ."
Yes, #eBike demos will get people out of cars. But when you're the authority having jurisdiction over the streets, you could nudge a little harder. Maybe try not squandering the entire #transportation budget and wasting everyone's time with your obsession over shuffling more cars to the next red light. 🤷
People who say they need a car because it rains sometimes, have you tried just carrying an umbrella or dressing your #eBike as one? I just rode a 1.5 miles round trip to pickup the kid from school, and my shoes were completely dry the whole time. Keep the DOTs' filthy road water off of you and getting slightly sprinkled with rain is fine. #Portland#pdxBikes#bikeTooter#pdxtst
A man on a bike was killed with a drunk driver here seven years ago next week, and nothing has changed except the paint wearing off. Does #PBOT have no respect for people on #pdxBikes, or do they not know how to do better? #Drivers from Beaverton aren't a force of nature, they're simply a result of choices made by "professional Engineers" (like that lane width 🙄 .) #InducedDemand created by the policy of maintaining extra freeway lanes on our surface streets.
bike check / mountain check for the yuba #supercargo with the little #hillTopper#eBikes kit. Rode from Barbur up Terwilliger to downtown, around with the @bikeloudpdx#pdxBikes#eBike policy ride, and back out Barbur from 1st. The battery indicator was red (of blue, green, red) when I got home but it never faded on the long steady climb out Barbur, 10 minutes for 2.5 miles with 200+ft elevation (ODOT, get your cars off of our essential historically-streetcar-graded bikeways)
@enobacon bafang 350w crank mount motor got me up the steepest hills and up to 60km/h. I couldn't afford the Bosch one, and it's 250w is limited by everything so 250w is when it's not too hot, the birds are chirping, you're not going too quickly....
@davedave this is a small 350W hub (hilltopper) which I really want to be regen-braking capable and then add more power via the crank drive motor (tsdz2 if it will fit or something low-profile under the level-ish bottom bracket tube (the rear right chainstay drops down, maybe too much for that motor.)
As it is, the 350W hub spins out sometimes on bumps and metal plates, even just steep hills if unladen, so we can't send more power to that without more traction (suspension fork + fat tire maybe)
