Inspired by t-shirt @ar had one day in Hackerspace. There wer four kittens on it, lying on each other, forming a tower. When I looked closed, I saw #kitten on top had more #paws than it should :blobcatjoy:

It starts off as the distant sound of construction: a rhythmic thump against the ground in a mechanical and predictable pattern. Though it seems to be getting louder, you assume it's just a trick of your ears and try to put it out of your mind.
You realize something is strange when you start to feel the rumbles in the ground. Whatever is making that noise is definitely getting more intense, as if it's approaching you steadily with each thump. You suspect something is amiss when you hear and feel the walls and floors of your home rattling. And when the shakes are so intense that a picture falls off the wall, you're certain something is very wrong.
Your adrenaline kicks in and the world around you seems to slow down. You only have moments to react and no time to think. You stand up from your desk and rush to the door, reaching out and grasping the knob. You pause for moment—just a fraction of a second—to consider if there's anything you need to bring along.
Though it was merely an instant, that moment made all the difference for your fate. You hear the sharp crack of splintering wood and look up to see that the ceiling is gone, and get a glimpse of a huge mass of fur and pawpad before you're completely compressed in darkness and warmth beneath a gigantic paw.
You're uncertain if whoever's holding you down is aware of your presence, but you were fortunate enough to find yourself pinned in the fur-covered wrinkle of flesh where a toe bends. You decide it's best to keep the giant as unaware as possible; the thought of being their plaything crosses your mind but considering what they just did to your house, it's not worth the risk.
The time you spend underpaw is a strange mixture of comfort and discomfort. You can tell the floor below you could not withstand the force pushing down on you from above and you can feel where the boards shifted and cracked through the clothing on your back. And yet that same force is pleasant from above, a soft velvety prison with a soothing fragrance of lightly salted vanilla. It's gentle and calming, despite the destruction caused by the source.
The pressure increases and your heart pounds in your chest as you feel the floor around you crack and buckle. You're firmly pinned and unable to move, and prepare yourself for the worst with the growing weight. But just as the compression starts to become unbearable, it stops and the paw lifts.
With the return of sight, you see the toes of that massive paw lifting in a forward step. Dust and fragments of rock trail off in streams from the titanic digits as the giant makes their way forward. You lay still for a few more seconds as the thumping gets quieter and quieter, until you're sure they're a safe distance away.
You sit up and rub your head, trying to shake off the slight dizziness of the impact, as relatively soft as it was. You look around at the destruction around you, a pawprint crater where there were once walls and doors. That which wasn't shattered was flattened; all your metal appliances crumpled like accordions, flat and dented at the top.
Finally, you stand up, brushing the dust off of yourself and coughing a little as a cloud of it rises along with you. Judging from the frantic voices around you and the sirens in the distance, you guess yours wasn't the only building that was destroyed.
You think back to when you first bought the place. It's funny, it seemed ridiculous at the time, but now you're glad you opted for Macro Insurance.
