Doesn’t mean some models won’t be biased, or wrong, or used to generate disinformation or abuse. How much you want to bet that these moves to close down APIs because of generative AI are being pushed by OpenAI and their ilk, or at least not actively opposed by them? Most of GPT was clearly sourced on reddit. Now, reddit wants to make the API outrageously expensive. With the funding OpenAI has it could pay those rates, but anyone wanting to develop an open-source alternative will not, thus never being able to achieve parity with the commercial models due to having a fair bit of that vast treasure trove of data inaccessible to them which GPT has already used. #AI#GPT#LLM#Reddit#openai#capitalism
Sometimes, #ChatGPT just needs to say, "I don't know." Instead of launching into a defensive diatribe. I suppose that IS more like people than a robot tho. However, like... just say I don't know. Stop beating around the bush and making me read to find out that the question isn't going to be answered at all.
Sam Altman wants to maintain control of OpenAI and its popular A.I. chatbot technology and therefore won’t take the company public anytime soon because it would limit his freedom to make decisions, Bloomberg reported.
“When we develop superintelligence, we’re likely to make some decisions that public market investors would view very strangely,” Altman said at an event in Abu Dhabi.

Reading a post about #OpenAi scraping whatever they can without regulations made me remember the first (and only) time I got banned from a discussion board: it was yesnoyopeDOTcom (I'm not putting the direct link in case they're still hunting me) and since I didn't have internet at home I was using Teleport Pro to download a bunch of discussions so they noticed heavy traffic and I got busted... those were fair times! 😂
A.I. Poses ‘Risk of Extinction,’ Industry Leaders Warn.
An open letter was signed by more than 350 executives, researchers and engineers working in A.I. warning of the risks of artificial intelligence.
Here is the one sentence statement released by the Center for AI Safety:
“Mitigating the risk of extinction from A.I. should be a global priority alongside other societal-scale risks, such as pandemics and nuclear war.”
