In 1941, Dnipro Hydroelectric power plant was blown up by Soviet military to slow down Nazi Germany advancing in Ukraine. Several thousand people were killed. In 2023, Kakhovka HPP was blown up by Russia in an attempt to hinder the upcoming Ukrainian counteroffensive.
